I Have A Metal Denture With Lots Of Discomfort, Would A Flexible Denture Be Kinder To My Gums?

December 10th, 2013
Q.

Dr Shaffie. I have 10 teeth at the top of my mouth on a metal denture with lots of discomfort, it’s held in place by metal clasps on one side only has there are no teeth on the left. Oral thrush and mouth ulcers are part of my every day life. I have seen my dentist who thinks a new plate would be beneficial. Well I tend to agree that getting rid of the metal would be good as having a plastic replacement seems silly as this one was a replacement for my last plastic denture. Would a flexible denture be better and kinder on my gums and if so is it possible to hold it in place with no support on the left side? And what is the cost of these dentures.? Thank you.

I Notice That I Have A Stain That Has Developed Near My Filling. Why Is This?

December 10th, 2013
Q.

Hi Mark. I have a front tooth which already has a filling in it, but I have noticed where the filling is there appears to be a spot of some sort, like a brown stain on the tooth. Why is this? Does the filling have to come out and treated to be refilled. The filling has been in there for a few years but now I am worried that I might lose the tooth or the staining might spread. I would be most grateful for your help. I have no problems with other teeth but I would like to know why this has happened.

After A Great Deal Of Restoration On My Teeth, I’ve Decided I Now Want Implants. What Is The Average Price For This Type Of Treatment?

December 10th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Moore, I have something that’s been on my mind and I hope you can help me with it. I have had a great deal of restoration on my teeth and would like to start having implants rather than continuously having further treatment to restore old fillings etc. I am 57 years old, look after, what is left of my teeth, fanatically. I have been forced out of work, ex military, age etc, and would prefer to keep the cost as low as possible. Could you advise me whether I can have implants and what would be an average price for this treatment? Many thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.

I’ve Noticed A Small Chip On The Bottom Of My Front Tooth. How Should I Fix This Problem?

December 9th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have noticed that I have a small chip on the enamel at the bottom of my front left tooth. It is only noticeable up close but I can also feel it with my tongue. I have read about teeth being filed down and wondered if this would be a suitable treatment as I am worried that the chip may get bigger or that it may be prone to infection. My two front teeth come down quite a bit lower than the rest of my teeth so I think they could be filed without it looking odd. What do you think I should do? Any advice would be gratefully received. Many thanks.

Bad Diet Has Caused Acid To Erode My Teeth, What Is The Cheapest Way To Restore Them?

December 9th, 2013
Q.

Hi.  I’ve got bad acid erosion on my teeth from living off of diet coke for years! My molars are particularly bad but also my front teeth have small chips. I have hardly any money and was just wondering if you knew of the cheapest possible out come I could have to repair some of this damage. I really do not want metal crowns as am a singer and this will completely knock my confidence. I am extremely upset I have let it get to this point and know there is no way I can pay thousands of pounds. I feel at a complete loss!
If you could let me know what you think may be the treatment I am looking at and if you know of any NHS dentist who would provide tooth coloured crowns on molars.
Thank you very much for your time.

What Sort Of Treatment Should I Consider To Fix My Overbite?

December 9th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I was wondering what sort of surgery I could get to improve my teeth. I have a bit of an overbite and the top front two teeth are much larger and not in line with the other teeth. It’s a bit like the two teeth are like bunny teeth. I’d really like the top row of teeth to be straight and for the two front teeth not to stick out like they do, however I’m unsure what action would need to be taken to solve this problem. I’m fine with getting braces, I am just curious how they’d work because it’s not like there’s a gap between any of my teeth for teeth to shift towards. Thank you.

I Think My Porcelain Crowns On My Two Front Teeth Look Too Big. Can I Get Them Reshaped?

December 9th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I’m looking for some advice. I recently got porcelain crowns on my front two teeth. I think they look a little big, can they be shaped now that they are in place? I have always hated my two front teeth as they looked too big. I was hoping that the crowns would have made them look smaller in comparison. If they try and shape them now, will it most likely dull them? Is there anything else that could go wrong if I got them reshaped? Thank you. Any advise you can provide me with on this matter would be very helpful.

Is There Any Way I Can Get Implants For Free As My Dentures Are Making My Life A Misery?

December 6th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Shaffie. My dream is to have real teeth again. Since I was fitted with top dentures my worse nightmare has come true.  I am 49 years old and I’ve had top plastic dentures for 3 years now. I have stopped going out into the public I’ve lost my confidence completely. It’s impossible for me to ever save up whilst I’m on income support. My dream come true is to get my all my top teeth fitted with implants something is telling me to ask a dentist online. Is there any clinic which offer reduced rates to help my dream come true. Thank you.

Is it veneers? At least then I will know the name of my dream and to save up to for a good few years to get them what would be the price of a full mouth of veneers if that’s what it’s called? Thanks.

I Feel My Porcelain Crowns Are Too Bulky. Is It Possible To Thin Them Out?

December 6th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I would like to ask if it’s normal for the top part of a front crown, near the gum area to be bulky? It seems to be interfering with my lip when I close my mouth. I asked my dentist about this and they said it wasn’t possible to thin it out, they are porcelain crowns. I also have a dental bridge used for the crowns on all of my front 5 teeth. I strongly feel it makes me appearance look out of place with the bulkiness. I would like to get them re-done but there’s no way would I pay the amount I already paid for, if the bulkiness can be removed. What do you suggest?
