I Notice That I Have A Stain That Has Developed Near My Filling. Why Is This?

Q.
Hi Mark. I have a front tooth which already has a filling in it, but I have noticed where the filling is there appears to be a spot of some sort, like a brown stain on the tooth. Why is this? Does the filling have to come out and treated to be refilled. The filling has been in there for a few years but now I am worried that I might lose the tooth or the staining might spread. I would be most grateful for your help. I have no problems with other teeth but I would like to know why this has happened.

Thank you for contacting me regarding this matter. The discolouration could just be some staining at the edge of the filling that might be able to be polished out. It could also be a sign that the filling is leaking and might be tooth decay. Please go and see a dentist immediately to have it professionally examined and the problem diagnosed. You should do this for piece of mind if nothing else. I hope this advice helped. Kind regards, Mark.
