I Have A Metal Denture With Lots Of Discomfort, Would A Flexible Denture Be Kinder To My Gums?

Q.
Dr Shaffie. I have 10 teeth at the top of my mouth on a metal denture with lots of discomfort, it’s held in place by metal clasps on one side only has there are no teeth on the left. Oral thrush and mouth ulcers are part of my every day life. I have seen my dentist who thinks a new plate would be beneficial. Well I tend to agree that getting rid of the metal would be good as having a plastic replacement seems silly as this one was a replacement for my last plastic denture. Would a flexible denture be better and kinder on my gums and if so is it possible to hold it in place with no support on the left side? And what is the cost of these dentures.? Thank you.
A.
Hello and thank you for your enquiry. Based on what you have told me I would say that a flexible denture is best when not too many teeth are missing. The best option for you to consider would possibly be implants. I would have to see you in person to make a more accurate assessment, however. Thanks for getting in touch. Dr Hussein Shaffie.
