My son should be entitled to corrective treatment on the NHS as he has worn and grinded them down whilst seeing a dentist every six months since the age of 2

January 30th, 2008
Q.
My son is almost 20 years of age and from the age of 2 years saw the same dentist at regular 6 monthly intervals until his dentist passed away when he was 14. The new dentist we registered with commented immediately that he had been grinding his teeth for a number of years and uncorrected had worn his bottom and top teeth severaly 2mm. He said he had the teeth of a 36 year old. We have tried to pursue this through the Dental Law Society for negiligence on the part of the dentist but could not proceed to court. We are now faced with having to correct the problems as his teeth are extra sensitive and he is embarrassed at their appearance. I have briefly discussed this with our current dentist who has hinted it will cost around £5,000. I am unsure as to how often this procedure will need to be repeated and what to do. I am of the belief that his situation has arisen through no fault of his or mine and he should be able to have corrective treatment on the NHS. Any advice you could offer us would be appreciated. Mrs. K

How do i find the best cosmetic dentist near me? do cosmetic dentists need a special qualification?

January 30th, 2008
Q.
I have been considering cosmetic dentistry for some time, but have no idea where really to start. I have a bit of a “picky shopper” nature and would want to know that I’m dealing with the best practitioner and most accomplished dental artist with the best reputation for his/her work. Much as I am sure that all cosmetic dentists have to be qualified, like in all walks of life there will be good ones and bad ones! My question is – how do I find the very BEST cosmetic dentist near me, what assurances do I have that I am making the right choice of dentist, and where can I find reviews of various practices if such things exist? I appreciate your assistance. Best regards M

My NHS upper denture is rubbish would a flexible denture be better?

January 30th, 2008
Q.
Dear justin
thank you very you very much for your reply, i guised implants would be very expensive. could i please ask one last question? as stated the N H S upper denture i had fitted 9 months ago is rubbish i can not eat or talk with them, mind you some of my friends find this very comforting. On returning to my dentist he recommends a flexible upper denture that doesn’t need any of that nasty fixing gum. he is a great guy my dentist but i don’t understand his accent he’s from the middle east, i have talked to the head receptionist she tells she has never seen this type of denture.
im 74 Justin and for £450 this sounds a great denture i would be very grateful for
your opinion . sorry for the typing this is my first month using a computer

p s the bit i did understand is the upper denture has no roof
pushes against the gums and stays put.im very grateful to you Justin for your assistance

Will teeth whitening work on my darkened root canal treated teeth ? ..internal tooth whitening inside out teeth whitening…

January 30th, 2008
Q.
I have always had a lot of problems with my teeth and in the last couple of years, I have had root canal treatment on my front teeth. The treatment has considerably darkened my teeth to the extent where I am now very conscious about smiling or showing my teeth. I am seriously thinking of having my teeth whitened but I am worried because I have heard it can sometimes do more damage and my teeth are not in very good condition as i have quite a few fillings etc. Do teeth have to be in good condition to undergo the whitening process? I am also not sure if the whitening would work because it has been caused by root canal? If you could offer any advice, I would be very grateful. L.

Most of my teeth have crowns will teeth whitening work on them?

January 30th, 2008
Q.
I have had a lot of dental work in my past, and most of my teeth have porcelain crowns. I am now wearing braces to correct a \”jaw\” problem. When I have the braces removed, I would like to have my crowns whitened. Can this be done? I have been told that porcelain crowns will not stain, but mine look yellow. P L
