I Had An Infection After A Temporary Filling And Now I’m Told The Only Option Is A Denture. What Would You Say I Should Do?

November 12th, 2013
Q.

I had a broken tooth that wasn’t painful or any trouble until my dentist decided to give it temporary filling whilst doing a couple of other fillings that were necessary, following this I have been in agony as it got infected. I went back and they gave me antibiotics which I have almost finished the course but am still in the same amount of pain. they have said they will just need to take it out and the only option of filling the gap they have given is dentures which is traumatising for me to even think about as I’m only 23 they have said no to bridges because both the teeth either side to the broken one are healthy. I never asked them to do anything to that tooth and now I’m in so much pain and upset with the tooth. they haven’t been very nice as they caused this and now are trying to force dentures upon me and keep saying I have no other options. I am absolutely distraught over this and I desperately want some help?

I’ve Been Quoted £2,600 For Invisible Braces. Would That Cost Be About Right?

November 12th, 2013
Q.

Hello. I would like one of my lower front teeth to go back in line with the rest as it is indented. I have been told that I could wear an invisible brace (removable) for 6 month at a cost of £2,600. Would that cost be about right? Also, my husband has the same problem except his problem tooth is on the top set of teeth.  His tooth has protruded slightly more than usual over the last couple of months and so he too has been told that an invisible brace could be fitted and would solve the problem in 6 months at a cost of £2,600. Please give some advice. Thank you, Dr Shaffie.

I Need A Lot Of Cosmetic Work On My Teeth, But There Is No Way I Can Afford £5000. How Can I Find A Way To Get The Treatment?

November 12th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I’ve just been to my local dentist and he has told me I need a lot of cosmetic work doing on my teeth which is going to cost £5000. I have an NHS exemption and have been told I can’t get any help with the cost. I struggle with the way I look due to my teeth and try not to smile so no one sees them. Can you suggest if I am able to get any help at all as I have very little money but can’t keep going on the way I am. Thanks. I hope you can provide some advice.

I’ve Had Conflicting Advice. Should I Get Implants Or A Cantilever Bridge?

November 11th, 2013
Q.

My 7th right lower molar was done with RCT. But due to poor support of the crown capping they were misplaced twice. RCT was also not done properly due to prognosis being questionable. Now my doctor has advised me for an extraction due to the poor condition of the tooth. My 8th molar was already extracted 3 years back due to impaction. I am afraid that in absence of two molars that I will be unable chew food. Someone suggested a Cantilever bridge and someone said implant. what should I go for? I am confused, I hope you can advise me. Also is it necessary to go for any option after extraction? Can’t it be left as it is? Thanks.

I Am Classed As A Complex Case And I’m In Need Of An Expert. Could You Try To Give Me A Normal Smile?

November 11th, 2013
Q.

Hi Mark. I am classed as a complex case having been born with a cleft palette and having extensive upper and lower jaw surgery. If I made an appointment would I get one with you regarding restorative dental work. I have metal plates holding my jaw together and one is sticking out of my gum and 2 of my molars have crumbled. I also need new veneers and crowns, one crown was recently replaced and has broken in half and all are different colours.  My teeth are also too small as my old veneers have worn down, they have been on for nearly 20 years there is also a large lump that seems to be my jaw bone hanging down. I am in need of an expert and I just want a normal smile for once in my life. Thanks for your time.

I Need Implants As I May Lose My Next Placement As A Student Nurse. Could I Get NHS Funding For Implants?

November 11th, 2013
Q.

Hi Marcus. Could you please tell me if my situation would warrant funding of NHS for implants as I’m desperate. I am a student nurse and have been told that I may not be able to attend my next placement due to teeth missing at the front of my mouth (I tripped and had a small rake in my hand that hit me in the mouth).
I am pretty devastated as not only have I lost teeth I may lose my place. Hope to hear from you soon and thanks in advance for any help you can offer me.

My 14 Year Old Daughter’s Teeth Are Ruined From Medication, Would She Be Eligible For Veneers On The NHS?

November 11th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Moore, I’d like advice on what to do with my daughter has been on medication since she was born the medicine has made her teeth rot and she is now 14 years old and hasn’t got any confidence, she doesn’t go out and doesn’t want to go to school. Would it be possible to get her veneers on the NHS? The medication she is on is sodium picosulphate and movicol and in the past she has been on lactulose and various other medicines. It is very embarrassing for her she got no friends because she won’t mix with anyone. Any advice would be gratefully received. Thank you.

I’ve Wanted To Straighten My Teeth For A Long Time. Which Discreet Braces Are Most Suitable?

November 8th, 2013
Q.

Hi. I’ve wanted to straighten my front
teeth for a long time as one slightly crosses over the other.
However I wanted a brace fitted for the shortest possible time and something clear so no one can tell I’m wearing one.
Which type of brace would you recommend?
I’ve looked at lingual and simpli5 but I’m unsure as to whether either would
be suitable as my front teeth cross at the bottom. Many thanks, it’s much appreciated.

I Have Two Loose Teeth. I Am Dubious About Implants. Would Bridge Work Be The Better Option?

November 8th, 2013
Q.

I have two loose teeth – one at the front top and one at the side top. Because the front one is unsightly and protruding forward my local NHS dentist has suggested having a bridge fitted. Because I have had gum disease in the past my gums have receded and I am dubious about having an implant therefore a bridge seems the obvious solution. I am wondering whether I should have them taken out before consulting you or leave them in for your assessment. I would also be interested in the cost for bridge work on both teeth if that’s possible.

I Smashed A Tooth When I Was Younger, I Need Advice On How To Fix My Smile?

November 8th, 2013
Q.

Hello, I fell down a concrete stair well and smashed my front tooth when I was 9. I have had a lot of work on my teeth over the years and braces as well I have been left with a large crown. That gets infected month after month.  My dentist gave me the option of a tooth on a palate or just take it out and leave a gap in the front of my mouth. I don’t want a gap and a palate would make me sick with the food getting stuck under it and my gum has turned purple and it is shrinking back from the front tooth, my 2 front teeth. Now I have an overbite, I have gaps now in all my upper front teeth due to the work over the year. I have asked for my teeth to be fixed or if not all at least my front crown, the dentist has told me that I would have to be referred and it’s a cost of £2000/£3000 just to get my front tooth sorted, I get NHS credits as well so I don’t pay. I have had to change my Dentist as they just keep giving me antibiotics every month, I don’t not know if the infections is coming off the crown and spreading in my mouth. I get puss filled lumps on the front of my gums and you can see them when I smile. I would just like someone to just help me I sick of the pain and the infections and I would just like a nice simple smile. Thank you so much if you can reply.
