How Do I Go About Finding A Good Implantologist In My Area So I Can Get My Fracture Fixed?

Thursday, November 7th, 2013
Q.

February I had a root canal treatment on a lower right side molar (third from back without a wisdom tooth) and have today been told I have a fracture which means the only option is to remove the tooth.

The X-rays don’t show the fracture but I have had pain when biting and with cold air for a while so am not surprised by the result and I was warned it was a possibility.

My NHS dentist has suggested being referred for a dental implant after the extraction. Can you please advise how I go about finding a good surgeon in the North West as I read on one of your posts it is important to go to someone who will use quality implants? How do I know though? Also, I have been reading about material being inserted when a tooth is removed to encourage bone regeneration, so is it best to have the extraction and implant all done by the same private dentist or can I have the extraction done at the NHS one and think about the implant later?

Good Morning, I Am Sixty-Two And In Good Health. I Want To Know If Cosmetic Surgery Has Advanced Enough For Bone And Implant Surgery To Be Safe At My Age?

Monday, October 14th, 2013
Q.

Good Morning,

I am a 62 year old male in very good health and when I was 12 years old was involved in an accident where I lost my four upper front teeth. Over the years my upper teeth have suffered and I am losing them gradually. My question therefore is this: Has cosmetic dentistry advanced enough that I could have bone implant and implant surgery at my age and would there be any health risk in doing so?

Many thanks.

Is It Possible To Cause Serious Nerve Damage With Dental Implants?

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013
Q.

Kings College London Dental college has warned that dental implants could damage the nerve with serious consequences. What is your opinion on the risk involved in this type of dentistry?

I have one tooth missing and am considering a dental implant however I wish to establish the amount of risk to the nerve in view of this report.

I also would like to have some idea of the cost involved in this kind of treatment. I have already have a full head X-ray by the dentist who extracted my tooth. She said I would not need bone augmentation or sinus lift to her knowledge but she advised me to seek a dentist practising in implants.

Thank you for any information you can supply.

My Gums Have Receded Due To Medium Level Gum Disease – What Treatment Should I Undertake?

Thursday, August 29th, 2013
Q.

Hello, Doctor. I need to tell you that I currently have medium level gum disease at the moment and my gums have receded quite a bit and I also have many gaps in my teeth with my front two teeth protruding quite a bit – what would be the best way for me to achieve a straight smile? Would the treatment be braces, veneers or dental implants? Is a straight smile even possible with implants, or will the replacement teeth look the same as the ones I currently have? Are veneers a bad option for receding gums? And what would be the best way to fix protruding front teeth/gum area? Thank you.

Can I Have Implants To Keep My Dentures In Place, Through The NHS?

Monday, August 12th, 2013
Q.

I have no teeth at all. I have lost them through poor hygiene after many years of depression and after being hassled to get them sorted I went to the local dentist only to have them all removed and replaced with dentures. I have been trying these for a while now and every time I wear them I get serious headaches up through my temple areas and across my fore head. I understand that using them takes patience and practice but no matter what product I use I still can’t eat any food with them in. as a result I haven’t been able to eat any solid food since I had them done. I understand also that you cannot have them on the nhs, only in certain circumstances. I am hopeful though that maybe you can advice me on my best course of action, whether or not I can have a minimum number of implants that will help secure these things so I can try to eat solid food again. The food problem is the most important thing for me at the moment but I also haven’t been able to leave my home since having them as it is causing me more problems than just not eating. I am desperate for any help/advice you can share with me. Thank you.

How Long Would It Take To Open A 4mm Space, In Order To Receive A Dental Implant?

Friday, August 9th, 2013
Q.

Hi there, when i was 12 i had braces to open up a space. This space had to be opened up in order to compensate for my missing lateral incisors which had to be replaced with dental implants. Now i am 18 and have been told there is not enough space in the roots to place the actual dental implant and I have been advised to have even more orthodontic treatment, i am just wondering if the braces how long it would take to open up roughly 4mm of space for dental implants to be placed? This work is taking forever, I just want it finished!! I feel like my whole life is on hold! Anyway, thank you very much for your help in advance. – See more at: http://www.cosmeticdentistryguide.co.uk/blog/can-braces-be-placed-over-an-already-existing-maryland-bridge/#sthash.LDK3WyWa.dpuf

My New Dentist Told Me That I Still Have A Baby Tooth Present, Why Wasn’t This Mentioned To Me Before?

Thursday, August 8th, 2013
Q.

Hi,
I have been for a routine check up this morning and my new dentist has noticed I still have a baby tooth (2 along from my front teeth). I am 31 and have regular 6 monthly check ups. This has never been mentioned to me before. He said it may last another 4-5 years and at the point where it comes out I will need to have the adult tooth removed from the roof of my mouth and an implant placing. Is this something you have seen before and is it something I should have done at my local dentist as opposed to a specialist practice such as yours?
Many thanks.

I’m Not Happy With My Implant Crown, Can My Dentist Correct It Free Of Charge?

Monday, August 5th, 2013
Q.

Hi, about a year ago I had a crown replaced which looked great and I was really happy with. After about three months I was in considerable pain and was told that my root had fractured and that I would now lose my tooth. I was given the option of a denture, bridge or implant. I decided to go with the implant as I felt this would be more beneficial. My other front tooth was always very slightly set back from my crown (naturally) and very slightly discoloured from the rest of my teeth and it was always my intention to have a veneer or crown on this one too in order to give myself a straighter smile. I went ahead and had the implant then my dentist went on maternity leave. Another dentist took over and did the impressions for my implant crown and at the time I informed her that I was going to have some sort of work on the one next to it done when my original dentist came back. When my crown came back and was fitted I noticed it stuck out quite a lot from my other teeth and much further than my original crown had. Where my other teeth come straight down, this one kicks out. I also have no bite at all on this tooth now. When I queried this I was told that it is preferred that you don’t have any bite on an implant at all and because I was going to have work done on the tooth next to it, it allowed them to change the shape of my tooth. I was never asked nor agreed to changing of the shape of my tooth. She told me it looked great and said I’d get used to it.

I was going to wait until my original dentist came back from maternity leave before having any work done on the front tooth next to it but decided that I couldn’t wait as the new ‘sticky out’ implant made the one next to it seem even further in so I went back and saw the dentist who did the implant. She is now saying that rather than cut away at the healthy tooth next to it and fit a crown that she would rather fit a veneer instead but that this won’t bring the tooth in line with the implant. I have two options now, I can either accept that since my implant sticks out so far and I have a veneer that I will never have straight teeth or, I can have my other tooth crowned to bring it in line with my sticky out implant and have two sticky out teeth!! I feel that the problem is with the implant crown but my dentist doesn’t see this. She says that I notice it because I’m aware of it but no one else does!! I really hate my teeth now but I’m loathe to pay again to replace the crown. Is there any way that I can insist on them correcting the crown on the implant free of charge? Am now wishing I had just gone for a bridge instead as my temporary one (done by my original dentist) looked much more natural.

My Dental Implants Have Failed After 4 Years, What Should I Do Now?

Friday, July 26th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Patel. I had dental implants placed around four years ago in the Upper left jaw. The back implant I have been told has now failed as the bone has unfortunately shattered around it.

When the implant was fitted I was told did not have enough bone density but the implant seemed to just merge after about six weeks.

I now need to have the three tooth dental implant bridge removed because of its instability within the gums.
Once removed and healed would it be possible to rebuild the bone with a graft? Then replace with another inplant in its place? Or would you say that it’s too long-winded? I’m not really sure what I want to do now, seems a  bit too much trouble to be worth it if you ask me! Kind regards,
