How Do I Go About Finding A Good Implantologist In My Area So I Can Get My Fracture Fixed?

Q.
February I had a root canal treatment on a lower right side molar (third from back without a wisdom tooth) and have today been told I have a fracture which means the only option is to remove the tooth.

The X-rays don’t show the fracture but I have had pain when biting and with cold air for a while so am not surprised by the result and I was warned it was a possibility.

My NHS dentist has suggested being referred for a dental implant after the extraction. Can you please advise how I go about finding a good surgeon in the North West as I read on one of your posts it is important to go to someone who will use quality implants? How do I know though? Also, I have been reading about material being inserted when a tooth is removed to encourage bone regeneration, so is it best to have the extraction and implant all done by the same private dentist or can I have the extraction done at the NHS one and think about the implant later?

A.
This is a very good question. In the first instance your own dentist will be able to recommend someone to carry out your implant treatment. This would usually be someone that he has referred to in the past and feels confident to carry out your treatment. Your dentist will then arrange a referral and a consultation will follow. At this appointment you can ask all the questions you may have about the proposed treatment. Cost, stages of treatment, the type of implant to be used. I would also recommend that the person you choose to carry out your implant treatment also removes the tooth, as they will ensure that it is done in a way that best preserves the surrounding bone.
