My New Dentist Told Me That I Still Have A Baby Tooth Present, Why Wasn’t This Mentioned To Me Before?

Q.
Hi,
I have been for a routine check up this morning and my new dentist has noticed I still have a baby tooth (2 along from my front teeth). I am 31 and have regular 6 monthly check ups. This has never been mentioned to me before. He said it may last another 4-5 years and at the point where it comes out I will need to have the adult tooth removed from the roof of my mouth and an implant placing. Is this something you have seen before and is it something I should have done at my local dentist as opposed to a specialist practice such as yours?
Many thanks.

Hi this is fairly common actually. My advice about any medical/dental/surgical procedure, but especially with dental implants , is to have the best person possible carry out the work. this will ensure you get the best results. if the tooth is a front tooth this is even more important. The extra investment will be worth it as you want this replacement to look fantastic, to function healthily and to last as long as possible

Hope that helps

Clone Says :

Doctor my canine tooth cracked while i was eating crisps after a temporary filling was done.
It was a small line at the side of the tooth and my dentist told me that I would need a crown and there is nothing that they could do. I have a crown now and it is not as long as my natural canine tooth, I was wondering if I could get a matching(longer) crown to replace it and if it would be suitable for canine teeth. Also have the feeling that if I had said ‘no’ and went to another dentist that my natural tooth and shape could have been saved. One more quick question as I am aware of Stem cell technology if stem cells can be taken from old dried up baby teeth? Or if you know the people growing new teeth and if they need volunteers, I’d like to try.
