do i need have a system of staples between the teeth to stabalise my loose teeth

Tuesday, April 14th, 2009
Q.
Recently my teeth have become loose due to gum disease. My dentist has suggested what sounds like a system of staples between the teeth to stabalise them. Have you heard of this and if so how successful is it. I am 59 years old.

can i have cosmetic lumineers for my gum recession instead of the surgery

Monday, April 13th, 2009
Q.
I’ve had surgery in the past for gum recession and have a few more teeth to get done. I found it very painful. Can I just have cosmetic lumineers placed over my teeth, instead of going through the surgery. I have good strong teeth, but the gum is receeding.

How to over come my Chronic fatigue syndrome

Friday, April 10th, 2009
Q.
NHS dentists in my area are almost impossible to find. When I had to find a new dentist, he only gave my teeth a very basic clean once in two years, insisting they didn’t need cleaning. I found another NHS dentist who gave me the most painful scale that I’ve ever experienced. She was holding my gums up with a hook and they were bleeding for days after and hurt for a further two months, also I experienced sensitive teeth for the first. At my next visit, I told them I had a toothache and a bad taste in my mouth. They said I had gum disease and would have to go to a private clinic to have my gums peeled back and scaled. The cost would be up to £3,000. I booked to see a private dentist for a second opinion. He told me that the situation wasn’t that bad and that he could do what needed doing. He also gave me a filling for the tooth that he believed was causing me problems. The bad taste is still with me now and the gum is still sore around the tooth but the dentist gives no suggestions for this. Anyway, I soon develop a pus filled lump on my gum and also got very poorly. I wasn’t well enough to get to the dentist that day so gargled with warm salt water and it went down by morning. When I went to the dentist, he said “Well, there’s nothing there now”. Even though there are signs of it, a little tear in the skin. This lump has come up three times now often at the weekend when the dentist is unavailable and makes me poorly each time but goes down with salt water. The last time it came up, the Doctor gave me antibiotics (4 weeks ago) and my mouth felt like it was totally back to normal and the bad taste was gone. Within three weeks, the bad taste was back and parts of the gum are still sensitive. Also, the front tooth where the lump was, has now become slightly loose. I went to the dentist again, he has done extensive x-rays and says that my bone is slowly decreasing and I will need a bridge for the front tooth at some point. He then said that I didn’t really need my scale and polish this time. What worries me the most is that nobody seems to be dealing with my current mouth problem and I’m worried that if the antibiotics worked so well, I must have an infection that isn’t being dealt with. I am currently incapacitated from work suffering with Chronic fatigue syndrome so I don’t have the luxury of being able to check out new dentists at £100 for the initial visit. Have you any suggestions at all and am I worrying unduly that my dentist isn’t doing enough to take care of the teeth I have already. Sorry this was so long and many thanks for any advice given.

Would my new top dentures will be the cause for my problem?

Friday, April 10th, 2009
Q.
Hello Dr Rob, I have just had a new top denture made and have been wearing it for about a month, towards the end of the day I start to get a headache, I hurt behind my ears and all round the base of my skull, so much so, I find it necessary to remove the denture. The front teeth seem to be set too far back – when I bite on the front it feels as though the teeth are behind my gum, would this be the cause of my problem? by the way it was a private denture made by a young girl who looked about 12!

could the deep indentation in my gum be made to look completely normal?

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I currently have a bridge on one of my front teeth. The original tooth was completely removed due to decay….I therefore have quite a deep indentation in my gum. Could this be made to look completely normal again with your advertised techniques? Thanks.

Where should i go for my cold sore on my gum to the dentist or gum disease specialist?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009
Q.
I recently have this really cold sore on my gum and it started turned white and really burn. I went and poked at it and I find that I have a hole in my gum, it is not near my teeth, it is above the teeth near the side of my right and left mouth. Is it a tumor or cancer, if it is what recommendation can you suggest so I can go see someone. Do I have to go to the dentist or a gum disease specialist?

How to get rid of a gummy smile and options for chin and jaw correction

Saturday, April 4th, 2009
Q.
Hi, Just a few questions if you could help? I’m 23 and recently coming to the end of my treatment from the damon braces. My teeth are still not perfectly straight, i still have a cross bit and over bite, but its much better than it was. I am looking at a few things to complete everything. One being how to get rid of my gummy smile. I’n not sure which option to take? My cosmetic dentist has said botox to stop my lip rising? but ive seen gum contouring or lip flap surgery, not sure of the name, but where they reposistion the lip? Second thing is my chin/jaw. I’m not sure if I should have a chin implant, neck lift of correction jaw surgery. Which do you think would be the best options and best prices? I’ve even considered going abroad as the fee’s are so much here in the uk! I hope you can help, Thanks,
