I am 64 and my gums are shrinking

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008
Q.
I am 64 and my gums are shrinking and I am noticing a gap which looks as if I have food stuck between my gum and my tooth – this is becoming embarrassing and I was wondering if there was a procedure to correct this – or like the aching joints something I have to put up with! I don’t have any dentures. thank you for your help.

I had veneers placed on my top six teeth two years ago

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008
Q.
I had veneers placed on my top six teeth two years ago. They were fine for the first year but since then my gums have been pulling away from the edges of them. I have no gum disease and they do not bleed. My dentist used a special tool to ensure that edges of my veneers were not rough and irritating my gums but this hasn’t made any difference. The gum between my right front tooth and the tooth next to it has the worst recession and I can see the edge of the veneer. It also makes it look like the veneer on the tooth next to my front tooth is sticking out alot. What can I do about my gums? and would you recommend that I have a larger veneer placed on the tooth with the biggest gap? I also have stains along the gum line of my veneers. They are an unattractive yellow colour – I am seeing my dentist next month, will he be able to remove these stains? if not what do I do?

My usual dentist fitted a cap on one of my two front teeth

Monday, November 10th, 2008
Q.
My usual dentist fitted a cap on one of my two front teeth. I didn’t feel it was fitted properly and I now have quite a large gap in the middle. Last time I went I asked her what she could do, and she suggested bridges??? I explained that it was too much money and couldn’t she just re-fit the cap or a new one. She said it had moved due to me having slight gum problems (which I dont) and when she tried to wobble another tooth realised that was not the case. Please can you let me have any suggestions as it caues me probs when I’m eating and I am very concious of how it looks.

Hi I am due to have two lower front teeth extracted

Thursday, November 6th, 2008
Q.
Hi. I am due to have 2 lower front teeth extracted next week due to both being chronically infected one with an abscess. It is hoped to have a candleabara implant to replace both of them. Does this sound a viable option? I am also very concerned about this present infection causing this implant to fail even after all infection has gone and the gums have healed. could this be a possibilty. Also my dentist says I unusually show a lot of my lower gum and this could cause problems with aesthetics of the implant. I’m losing sleep over this (writing this at 2:30 am!)and seeking the best advice. I live locally to birmingham and would love to arange a consultation, nevertheless any info would be greatfully appreciated.

Hi I have been treated over the past 12 /18 months for gum disease

Thursday, November 6th, 2008
Q.
Hi I have been treated over the past 12 /18 months for gum disease, my dentist is very happy with my progress and my hygiene routine has stabalised my condition. However I am very unhappy with my smile with my front tooth overlapping due to movement and my gums have begun to recede although hopefully this is now under control (I am 36). I would love to restore my confidence in my smile as I am currently very self conscious, my budget is limited perhaps teeth whitening could help? But I don’t know which method would be best, can you help? Kind regards

I had a root canal done on one of my middle lower teeth

Thursday, November 6th, 2008
Q.
Hi, I had a root canal done on one of my middle lower teeth about 10 years ago due to an abcess. I had no trouble until a few months ago when the tooth started to fall apart. My dentist told me i needed a crown. He has taken the original tooth down to gumline and inserted 4 small pins and built a little square platform for the porcelain over metal tooth to cement to. The tooth fitted ok until last week when it fell off after only being on 2 or 3 months. I am having it re-fitted in a week after it has been re-cleaned. Im wondering whether he needs to insert a post to stop it from falling off again? The other problem is that ive had bad breath ever since he fitted it….there is a hairline gap between it and my gum which i can get toothfloss right under. Am i going to be stuck with this forever or is it just poorly fitted?
