Would my new top dentures will be the cause for my problem?

Q. Hello Dr Rob, I have just had a new top denture made and have been wearing it for about a month, towards the end of the day I start to get a headache, I hurt behind my ears and all round the base of my skull, so much so, I find it necessary to remove the denture. The front teeth seem to be set too far back – when I bite on the front it feels as though the teeth are behind my gum, would this be the cause of my problem? by the way it was a private denture made by a young girl who looked about 12!

A. It does sound like the denture is not allowing your jaw to sit in its normal resting position. Normally this type of problem is caused by having too much denture. A quick fix is to grind the denture down to relieve the symptoms while a new denture at the right hieght is made.

Thank you Doctor Rob, in desperation I got the file out and filed off the back tooth, that’s helped a bit. They don’t know how to make dentures in London…they really don’t, I’m having so many problems, might go for “Swissedent” next time.
