Hello Dr Gambroudes. I was wondering if you would please give me your thoughts on the differences between Clearstep and Invisalign? From what I understand of both treatments, one is American and the other is British. I have had a consultation with a dentist who uses Clearstep, with his main reason being that he feels there is more flexibility with Clearstep in terms of being able to have moulds re-created and retainers updated if your teeth don’t move as the computer predicts, and this is not the case with Invisalign? Would you agree with this, and which do you prefer out of the two? Thank you in advance.

September 16th, 2014Could I Have All My Teeth Extracted and All On 4 Done on the Same Day?
September 16th, 2014Hello Dr Hughes. I have extremely bad teeth because of drug abuse and from never looking after them properly in the past. There are more fillings than there is enamel now, and I also have seven crowns. I am not in any pain or discomfort or anything like that and I have been looking after my mouth properly now that I am drug- and alcohol- free. Would it be possible for me to have all of my teeth extracted and get All On 4 done on the same day, or would I have to wait for the gums to heal before a dentist could start the All On 4? Thank you for your time, I hope you can answer my question.
Are There Any Alternatives to Root Canal Treatment?
September 15th, 2014Hi Dr Gambroudes, I’m hoping you can help me with my problem. I have a deep filling in my second top molar which has a very big cavity. As I’ve mentioned, is currently patched up with a deep filling, but I have been advised by my dentist that root canal treatment will be required if it gets much worse. I do not want root canal treatment at all, but I also don’t want my tooth to die and lose colour.
Instead of root canal surgery, what can be offered to keep the appearance of a good tooth?
I understand that surgery will probably be required, but don’t know the options or the costs.
Thanks in advance.
Is There an Inexpensive Product I Can Use as a Retainer?
September 15th, 2014Good afternoon Dr Hughes. I am currently undergoing orthodontic treatment but will not be able to afford retainers due to hard times with my family at the moment. I would like for my teeth to stay straight and not shift back to what they used to look like. I’ve looked online for a long time looking for something that I could do that would keep my teeth in place after brace treatment. Would a night guard bought from a store work as a retainer? Is there any inexpensive product I can buy from a store that would work as a retainer? Please help, I get my braces taken off in a week’s time. Thank you in advance.
Could I Have Crowns Placed by an NHS Dentist?
September 15th, 2014Hello Dr Gambroudes, my question is this: I had braces when I was younger, but my teeth have changed shape considerably in the years since I had orthodontic treatment. My bottom front four teeth and top four front teeth are really bent, and I have two holes on the top four. It really makes me lack confidence, and my top teeth are beginning to chip away which makes me feel even more self-conscious. I would love to have some crowns put in, can I get this done by my local NHS dentist? And how much would it cost roughly for eight crowns? Please help, any answers would be such a big help to me as I’m dying to get this fixed.
Are Veneers a Good Option for My Front Teeth?
September 15th, 2014 Hello Dr Hughes. My front teeth are awful!
A few years ago I had a dental abscess, and I had to have a hole drilled into the front of my front tooth to allow the infection to drain out, and this was then filled in by my dentist. Since then, the tooth has now gone black. My dentist has bleached the inside, but I am still very self conscious about it. Would veneers work for me? I would probably need the 4 front teeth doing. Do you have any other suggestions? By the way, I am a very nervous patient. I also live in North Wales, with Wrexham or Chester being the nearest town. Thank you.
Would New Veneers Solve the Problem of Recessed Gums?
September 12th, 2014 I have severely recessed gums that now expose the substrate below the veneers to my upper jaw.
My lower jaw has five dental implants and a bridge, so the question of receding gums does not apply.
Would new veneers solve the problem, or would implants be the better solution? Giving consideration to the inevitable question of cost and longevity of the success after the procedure, I am also a type 2 diabetic and suffer from Coeliac disease.
Are there any other suggestions you could make to improve the appearance of my smile? With the prolonged receding of my gums I have inevitably lost a number of teeth from my upper jaw as well and although the denture I have conceals some of the problem, they do highlight the areas where the substrate is most visible.
Do You Have Any Advice for Dental Phobic Patients?
September 12th, 2014Hello Dr Hughes. Could you please advise me on getting my teeth treated? I’m so scared of dentists because of a bad experience I had in the past, but now I really need dental work done. I can’t even look at people right in their face when I speak to them. And I also need assurance that the work I need can be done without me having to be put to sleep, because that’s the main fear I have. Thank you, I have totally let myself down by letting it go this long without dental treatment. I don’t have one full tooth in my mouth. I would just really appreciate some help and friendly advice. Thank you very much.
I Have Chipped and Broken Teeth. What Can Be Done?
September 12th, 2014Hello Dr Gambroudes. I have lost one wisdom tooth and another is half broken. Most of my teeth are chipping off and they have holes in them. My dentist has given me a special toothpaste to use but there’s been no improvement since I started using that and all he does with the the second chipped wisdom tooth is fill it with a white paste. I’m only 34 years old and I don’t know what to do, but what can you tell me about this? What is wrong and how can I repair them? Also, how much will it cost please? This is so depressing, I don’t know what to do. Please help and give me some advice. Thank you in advance.
How Much Would It Cost to Get Dental Implants Through the NHS?
September 12th, 2014Hi Dr Huges. I am looking into getting all my teeth pulled out and have screw-in teeth or dental implants to replace them. I have had cancer and since then I have finished my chemotherapy and now I have had nothing but problems with my teeth, I brush them two times a day every day and they just keep rotting. I am in pain most the time, and I just want to get it sorted now. I currently don’t work so would have to go through the NHS as I couldn’t pay for private treatment. If you could tell me how much it will cost and how long the wait would be. I would be very grateful. Many thanks for your time.
