What is the Best Treatment for Dental Fluorosis on the Teeth?

September 11th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. I have dental fluorosis on both of my two front teeth. They are noticeably stained with large circular white marks, one on each of the two teeth. I feel that this affects the overall appearance of my teeth. I am 19 years old and I would really like to fix this problem. Would you recommend something along the line of veneers or Lumineers, or a treatment that is something totally different to veneers? I do not have a problem with the rest of my teeth, it is just the appearance of the front two that I would like to fix. I would appreciate any help you can give.
Thank you.

How Much Would it Cost to Straighten Just One Tooth?

September 11th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I was just wondering how much it would cost for me to straighten just one tooth at the front of my mouth? It just needs to be pulled forward because it has been knocked back and it looks terrible when I smile. I do have a dentist that I see regularly, but because I’m on benefits he will only do the treatment that he thinks is really needed. He says this but I feel like this is really needed, it’s knocking all my confidence and I hate smiling just because of this one tooth please could you help me understand what I’ll need doing to bring this tooth forward, and how much it will cost? Thank you.

My Mother Has a Hole in Her Gum. What Can We Do to Help Her?

September 11th, 2014
Q.

Hello. I am from Nepal and am sending in a question on behalf of my mother. My mother has developed a hole in the end of her gums recently.

It is swollen and she is suffering from a fever.

She is forty years old. Is this problem serious or is it a minor problem? Should we take her to a dental specialist or to a mouth specialist or even a hospital?

We are confused, so please help us. It’s causing her a lot of pain and she is not able to open her mouth.

I would really appreciate your kindness in offering some advice so we know what to do.
We really want to make the right decision for her. Thank you.

I Was Unable To Wear My Retainer During Military Training, And My Teeth Moved Back. How Much Will It Be To Fix?

September 11th, 2014
Q.

Hi, Dr Hughes. I wore braces for two years, then had them taken off, and started wearing retainers until I went to basic military training. I had to take off my retainers because you are not allowed to wear them in basic military training. I had only worn them for six months before I went, and then after basic military training my teeth had kind of moved back or got jacked up a little. How much would it cost me to get them straightened with braces again? I’m pretty sure there’s not that much work needed on it and it should only take six months or less? I hope you can answer my query for me. Thanks in advance.

Are Dental Implants Available on the NHS?

September 11th, 2014
Q.

Dear sir,

Six months ago I was ‘jumped’ by two people. Among the injuries sustained where two healthy front teeth knocked clean out. Since the assault, I have eventually had a partial denture fitted. I have already nearly swallowed them twice, I have difficulty eating with them in and have lost over a stone in weight. I really cannot deal with them. I have tried Polygrip etc. but this makes the situation worse. I am currently on ESA since the incident as I’m unable to work due to other injuries. Am I able to be treated for implants on the NHS? I have very little money. If so, how would I go about getting referred? Your advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

My Teeth are Very Small and Weak. What is the Best Treatment for Me?

September 10th, 2014
Q.

Good afternoon Dr Gambroudes, please give me some advice. I have very small teeth, they are very weak and brittle. They are also discoloured. Also, I have an overbite and gaps between all my teeth. What treatment would fix my teeth? And how much would it cost roughly? Also, if I need to wear braces, which ones would I need? You see, my current dentist said I cannot wear traditional metal braces due to my teeth being so weak, so it could damage them. Would crowns or veneers cover my overbite and give me bigger teeth with no gaps between them? I really need help as my teeth are my biggest insecurity and flaw. Thank you in advance.

I Have Paid a Lot of Money for Braces and My Teeth are Still Not Straight. What Should I Do?

September 10th, 2014
Q.

I paid £1800.00 for a brace and my teeth are still not straight. I was told that my treatment was finished and I did everything I was told to do during the treatment. They lost a few retainers so I had to get the brace put on again, and they also asked me to change practices twice, which also cost me more as it was no longer my local practice so I had to travel further. The brace is off now and I have to wear a plastic retainer every night. The teeth were never straight when my fixed brace was moved and I don’t know what to do. I feel that this has been a waste of money. What should I do?

Is There a Way to Get My Smile Fixed at a Low Cost?

September 10th, 2014
Q.

Hey, Dr Hughes. I have a few missing teeth and the teeth I have are discoloured. I am getting so down about their appearance. Is there any way I can get them fixed so I can finally having a bright smile like my friends, but at a low cost? I have been told that treatment will cost around £5000, and that would be for a couple of implants, teeth whitening and a new crown. I cannot afford this and I hate leaving the house due to my smile. Do they have students learning or something that could do it or any other cheaper alternatives? I’m stuck for options. Thank you for reading this question.

Can I Get Braces or Veneers on the NHS?

September 9th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. I am currently on income support, so am unable to afford private dental treatment. I’ve had major mental health problems due to issues I’ve had with my teeth and the way they look. I suffer from depression and major anxiety as a result of the state of my teeth. The way they look is so upsetting to me and it plays on my mind every day, I feel as though I can’t go to social events because people will stare at me. Would I be able to get braces or veneers on the NHS due to the mental health impact on my life? I never go out due to people looking aand judging me based on my teeth. Thank you.

I Have an Overbite. How Might This be Corrected?

September 9th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes, I’m wondering if you can give me some information. I have an overbite. How long do you think it would take to be corrected, and how exactly would it be corrected? Will it be painful? On the right side of my teeth, the upper teeth are overlapping the lower ones, while the lower ones are bent inwards. I only chew food on the left side and I always feel the tip of my tongue touching my upper front teeth. The front upper teeth are extremely overlapping the lower ones, in fact they are sticking out. Can this problem be easily treated? Thank you for any advice you can give!
