I Have Had A Variety Of Orthodontics For Malocclusion Reasons. I Would Like Braces Again And Would Like To Know If My Gums Will Be Affected?

September 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, I’ve undergone orthodontics for an anterior cross bite and malocclusion as my front lower teeth are hitting my uppers. My front teeth are stripped and unfortunately by the end of the treatment my 1st molars are twisted up and so I have malocclusion at my back teeth. By the time I realised the inconvenience my upper braces are removed. I got my new upper braces again after this new doc was able to settle malocclusion at back but as the twisted teeth are straightened my front malocclusion is back again. Since I have less time because of marriage. I recently had my braces removed. Now it’s been 6 months after my braces removed and I want to have braces again. How will this effect my teeth and gum problems? How will I able to correct my occlusion without stripping my teeth? I need your advice please.

I Would Like To Have A Perfect Smile Like The Ones On Embarrassing Bodies. Would Dental Veneers Achieve This Look?

September 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hello Marcus. Could you please help me? I would like the perfect smile. I would like veneers, 6 at the top and 8 at the bottom and 1 dental implant. I would like large white veneers. I’ve seen it done on embarrassing bodies. They file them down to pegs then put temps on until yours are made. My teeth are not too good but I want them to really stand out so that I’m smiling all day. Could you tell me how you do this please and give me a rough guide on what price it may be? Thank you.

Invisalign Won’t Work As My Overbite Is Too Big. Please Let Me Know If There Are Any Other Options Available?

September 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes,
I am 18 years old. When I was little I sucked my thumb and it caused a drastic overbite and I had to have surgery because the skin where my upper lip meets my gums caused a big gap in my front teeth. I hate how my teeth look, but I don’t want braces for years because I get such severe canker sores in my mouth. Is there any faster form of braces or anything that may cause less mouth pain or prone to sores. If I do have to go with braces I would at least like to know if there are any fast and reliable choices. Invisalign won’t work because my over bite is too big. Please let me know if there any other options available. Thanks!

Would Invisalign Work on a Tooth That Sticks Out?

September 22nd, 2014
Q.

Hello there Dr Gambroudes. I have three crowns on my front teeth on the top row. One of these teeth sticks out noticeably and is gradually getting worse and worse. I am extremely self conscious about the way it looks when I talk and smile. I have seen my dentist, who suggests a denture. I also have had an orthodontist referral with impressions taken of my teeth. The orthodontist seems to think train track metal braces will lead me to needing to have the crowns replaced, which puts me off that idea. Would Invisalign work for me in this

situation? Thank you, I hope you can answer me.

I’ve Had Some Teeth Knocked Out. What Can Be Done For Me?

September 22nd, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes, I’m wondering if you can offer me some advice. I had my two front teeth knocked out when I was a child, after falling off my bike. My teeth are now like
grave stones and I’m not happy with how they look. I decided to try and get
them sorted out for my wedding, but the dentist I saw said they could only be done on a palate. They were done for the wedding, but I couldn’t get use to them properly. Since then
I have had another fall and knocked some more teeth out. My wife is on my case to get what she calls ‘proper teeth’ fitted. What can be done, if anything, for me? Thank you in advance.

Could I Have a Veneer Put in to Replace a Missing Tooth?

September 22nd, 2014
Q.

Hello and good morning, Dr Hughes. I have a missing tooth next to my front teeth on the left side of my mouth, but on the right side there is still a tooth present. The left side bothers me because the tooth is missing and hasn’t come through, so the tooth next to it has moved over to fill the gap. Would it be possible for me to have a veneer put in place where the missing tooth should be so that both sides are the same, as it really bothers me when I smile because it looks uneven. It is not that obvious to other people, but I myself am really aware of it and it prevents me from smiling. Thank you.

Can I Get Braces on the NHS?

September 19th, 2014
Q.

I’m 21 years old and I’m unemployed. Am I allowed braces on the NHS?

The reason I ask is,  from the age of 14 I have been bullied regarding my teeth. I’ve never had confidence because of this, I have received counselling and nothing has helped!

When I was 16 I asked my dentist for braces and he said I don’t need them and if I want them then I have to pay £2000, so after that I thought I’m never going to get straight teeth.

Today I decided to look up about prices and it stated that if I was under 18 I would have been able to get them on NHS!

I have had a very hard life regarding this.

How do I go about applying for NHS braces? Regards.

Which Way Will My Teeth Move with Six Month Smiles?

September 19th, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes. I am currently in week 2 of Six Month Smiles treatment.

I am looking at my teeth, trying to imagine which ones will move, and in what direction. Will any teeth come down, will they move forward, backwards or side to side?

Is there anything I can determine, just by looking at the wires? Will my dentist have a mould of what my teeth are expected to look like at the end?

I am looking at the anchor points on my back teeth and trying to imagine the brace wire running straight. Would that give me an indication of what I can expect to move and in which direction? Thanks a lot, I’d be happy to receive your advice.

I Have a Broken Tooth, But It Isn’t Causing Pain. Should I Be Worried?

September 19th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. A while ago one of my fillings came loose and fell out. The tooth then cracked,  then the tooth fell out. However, there is still the root and a tiny but of tooth still present. I had an abscess, but I couldn’t get an appointment at the dentist’s until days after I got it and it eventually went away, so I never bothered going to the dentist after all. The area around the broken tooth is very red and a bit lumpy. I do not get any pain from this tooth, but should I be worried? Do you think I should go to the dentist anyway to make sure everything is okay? Thank you for your time.

I Have Too Much Exposed Gum. What Can I Do About This?

September 19th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I have three upper teeth on a partial denture, and I really like them. However, I have a tooth on the upper left side that is causing me bother because when I smile the gum is very exposed, making the tooth look smaller and it doesn’t match up with my new teeth. Do you think I could I get it removed and have a bigger false one added to my denture to hide the exposed gum and make it match up with my teeth on the denture? The false teeth are two front and the one next to them is on the right side. I really don’t like the exposed gum on the left side, what can I do about this? Thank you.
