My Teeth Are So Sensitive I Can’t Get Them Whitened. Why Does My Dentist Tell Me That My Teeth Are Healthy?

September 26th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have extremely sensitive teeth which causes severe pain in my face. They are also crooked & discoloured causing me embarrassment & I am really self conscious about them. I can’t whiten them as they are so sensitive. My front teeth are also moving as I am developing a gap in between them that I have never had before. My dentist isn’t very good & offers me no advice just saying there is nothing wrong with them. I have got to the point where I actually want them removing & replacing with natural looking dentures. Is this possible when I have, according to my dentist ‘healthy teeth’?

The Enamel On My Friends Teeth Has Come Off After Taking Tablets. What Can Be Done To Help Her?

September 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. I have a friend who because she has taken tablets the enamel on her teeth has all come off and her confidence has totally gone with it. She won’t go out and this is the reason as she doesn’t want anyone to see her. She is not working and claims benefits so really can’t afford much. Can you help and advise me please as to where to go from here to help her? I hope you can offer your advice. Many thanks.

I’ve Never Been To The Dentist And I Have A Gap Between Front Teeth. Would I Need Braces Or A Dental Implant For This?

September 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes, I would like your assistance. I have space between my teeth plus two teeth that never moved in line so it looks like I have a huge space there.
I need to know if I would need a dental implant for this or if I can fix my teeth just with braces? Also I have this broken tooth that looks really bad. I am very scared to see a dentist and have never been for a treatment earlier. I need to know how much time I can have all this fixed and how much will cost me? Thank you.

I Had My Veneers Filed Down But Now They Are Too Small. Would Cosmetic Bonding Help In This Case?

September 25th, 2014
Q.

Hi there Dr Gambroudes, I recently got composite veneers, 8 top and 8 bottom. However when I first saw them I thought they were two long and bulky so I asked to get them shaved down a bit. But now that I’ve had them I feel as if they are too short as I have quite big lips and unless I am smiling really big you can’t really notice that I have even had my teeth done. I’m regretting my decision to have them shaved down. Is there anyway I can go back and add more composite bonding to make them a tiny bit longer in length? Or what are my other options? I’m really unhappy and am sad everytime I look at them. Kind regards.

Hi. My Daughter’s Dental Intern Has Changed While She’s Having Orthodontic Correction. Could You Help?

September 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark, could you tell me what causes relapse in orthodontically aligned teeth?  How does an incorrect mid-line in the lower set affect this? Please offer your advice regarding this as my daughter is undergoing treatment in a university dental college, and the doctor has asked me to search for the answer.  My daughter has had braces treatment for the last two years. The dentist who was working on her completed the course and left the college and now another intern has taken over. Any advice you can offer us would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I Have A Missing Front Tooth And The Partial Denture Makes Me Ill. How Can I Afford A Dental Implant?

September 24th, 2014
Q.

Hello Marcus. I have lost a front tooth and I’m only in my twenties. I can’t go out any more or see anyone apart from family. My dentist gave me a denture on a plate but there’s no way I can have it in. I’m sick as soon as it’s in my mouth. I’m a single mum with 2 children and I’m getting worse everyday. I was very bubbly and out going and working with loads of friends but now I’m a different person all because of one tooth. My dentist doesn’t provide implants or anything like that and I have got a family wedding coming up but I’m not going because of this. I can’t pay for an implant weekly because I can’t get credit anywhere. What should I do?

I Have A Narrow Smile And Large Front Teeth. Would Braces Help To Resolve This Problem?

September 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have really good size upper teeth but unfortunately when I smile or talk, they do not show up very well. My teeth start from high up in my gum. My front two teeth are bigger in size than the rest of my upper set of teeth. Because of this reason, I have such a narrow smile.
Can you please recommend me the best treatment for this particular problem? I do not want to end up with a life where I cannot smile. Are braces helpful or would any cosmetic surgery be required? Thanks and regards.

I Have A Two Teeth Growing At The Top Of My Gum And I Think My Teeth Have Moved. Is This Possible?

September 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Marcus, I am 12 years old and I think my teeth went forward or back as when I close them and put my teeth down it feels strange.
Like there is a tooth in the way. I also have 2 teeth growing on top of the gum. When I close my mouth the teeth on the left it feels like one is in the way. Please help me. How do I know if my teeth came forward and how do I get them to look like they are on my top left next to the top big teeth – the one on the left of the big tooth is behind the bottom left teeth? Is this right? Thank you.

Over The Years I Have Lost Teeth Through Poor Oral Hygiene. Is There Anything That Can Be Done To Help Me?

September 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi. I’m 28 years old. In my younger days I was never made to to clean and look after my teeth. It was only until my teens that I wanted too. But by then my teeth weren’t so great. Over the years I’ve lost teeth. And now my front teeth are rotting from the gums. I’m so ashamed and embarrassed. And I feel my confidence draining away. Not even being able to smile. Even holding a conversation is getting hard as I don’t want everyone to later be talking about my teeth. Is there anything you can do to help me and put a big happy shining smile on my face please? I would be so grateful.

Is It Viable To Use A Previously Extracted Tooth As A Crown For My Back Molars. Has This Ever Been Done Before.

September 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hello. Is it viable to use one’s own wisdom teeth (previously extracted) to create crowns for the back molars? Would the tooth remain strong? Stronger than the traditional metal casing cap added porcelain? Could the wisdom tooth be drilled out and the cap mould poured into the wisdom tooth? Would it survive longer than the average 10-15 years? Rather the 50 plus years I expect to need it? The fit would be great since I recently found three wisdom teeth and I may need crowns on the back upper and lower molars they need to be a perfect bite match. Very curious to find out if this has been tried and what the success rates are if so. Thank you.
