Dear Dr Moore, Could You Tell Me How I Can Find Work Experience In The Cosmetic Dentistry Field?

December 20th, 2013
Q.

Dear Dr Moore,
I would first like to say thanks for taking the time to answer my question, but feel I should warn you that I am not seeking advice as a patient, but as a ‘wannabe-dentist.’ I am only 15 years old, but have been interested in the world of cosmetic dentistry for a while now. I was wondering what sort of other websites/magazines/books would expand my knowledge? Also, could you recommend any practices for work experience? I would be grateful for any advice you could give in starting out.
Thanks in advance.

The Temporary Cement For My Crown Is Causing Me Unbelievable Pain. Should I Keep The Crown?

December 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I had a crown fitted about 6 years ago but it was fitted with temporary cement, the nature of which has not been recorded by my old UK dentist.
It’s now causing me unbelievable pain and swelling and it needs to come out. Only thing is, I would like to keep the crown as it was expensive but need to dissolve the cement and and cap the nerve which I can only guess wasn’t done at the time. I have had to adjust my speech thanks to the incompetence of the dentist and my ill fitted front tooth.
Living in France makes it tricky to get all this done but wondered if you had any advice for me? Can I keep the old crown or shall I just rip it out and get another one or is there an easier, quicker and cheaper solution?
Any help gratefully received.

My Tooth Has Returned To It’s Original Sate After Orthodontic Treatment. What Are My Options?

December 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi there,

I had braces many years ago but since then one particular tooth has returned to its original state.

I’m 23 now and am wondering what my options are, I guess I’m similar to other people in that the priority is invisible solutions.

My other question is whether the treatments are lessened, quicker, or different if there is one particular problem area as oppose to a mouthful of issues. For example getting lingual braces upon just the small surrounding area of the tooth in question. Any information would be greatly appreciated,

Kind regards.

I’ve Just Had My Teeth Polished But The Stains On My Teeth Are Still There. What Else Can I Do?

December 19th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I currently have brown stains on my teeth and I have just had a polished at the dentists but they are still there. How can I get rid of them? Are there any home treatments I can use? Or do I have to see someone? How much would it cost? Or am I just stuck with them? I drink a tea a lot and fizzy juice but have started to cut down on the juice but still drink tea but with no sugar. If you could help me that would be great as It affects my confidence and I find it hard to smile and talk to people.

I Had A Root Canal Done 10 Weeks Ago And I’ve Had To Go Back So Many Times. I Don’t Know What To Do?

December 18th, 2013
Q.

I hope you can help me. I had root canal done on my front tooth 10 weeks ago now, I’ve been back so many times, the tooth has been filled so many times the bottom of my tooth is see through. The other day I was given a mouthwash by the filling and it is looking sore and 24 hours later I’m still in pain.  I have had three lots of antibiotics before they started filing the tooth and so much filing has been done that my mouth does not feel the same. The tooth hurts so much, I don’t know what to do any more, some times my ears hurt. When the root canal was having it proper filling put it, I was told I would not need to be numbed up as it was all dead, when something was put into the hole I nearly hit the roof, I never felt so much pain which lasted for a couple of minutes, Is this right what they are doing?

I Suffer From TMJ Which Causes A Lot Of Pain. Can You Tell Me If Braces Can Fix This Problem?

December 18th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes,
I have a condition with my jaw called TMJ disorder (Temporomandibular Joint) this causes me a lot of pain and is very uncomfortable at times I had a MRI scan which showed a problem with my right side it was not explained well what was wrong with it just that when my mouth is closed my jaw doesn’t sit correctly. They explained that I could have jaw wash out surgery but this sounds very painful. Just wondering whether braces would help with this condition? Also I should mention that my front top and bottom teeth are slightly overlapped. Do you do a pay monthly scheme?

My Girlfriend Has Fluorosis Throughout Her Teeth. Can It Be Removed Naturally Or By A Dentist?

December 18th, 2013
Q.

My girlfriend is 23 years old and has fluorosis pigmentation throughout her teeth. Can it be decreased or removed naturally or through a dentist? I have found some natural remedies given in other websites but they all are meant for children. Can this be cured for adults? I am not sure whether she has undergone a treatment during childhood which has caused this. Could you help us solve this problem as I find it difficult to find much information on the condition for adults. Thank you, I look forward to hearing your reply.

I Broke My Jaw A Few Years Back And Since Then My Top Teeth Have Started To Decay. How Can I Afford This Treatment?

December 18th, 2013
Q.

Hi Dr Moore, I’m 25 years old and have some seriously bad teeth, to the point where I don’t smile! I did have my jaw broke a few years back and my teeth have got so much worse since then! I have been in a lot of pain in previous procedures and I don’t think I could go through it again! My main issue at the moment is a decaying surface on one of my top teeth which is very visible and it’s getting me down! Do you have any advice that can help me? Financially is there any thing you can help me with also? Thanks.

I’ve Not Been To The Dentist For 20 Years And My Teeth Are Becoming Discoloured. Does This Mean I Have An Underlying Problem?

December 17th, 2013
Q.

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. I havent been to the dentist for 20 years so a little bit worried about going. I have noticed of late I have a back tooth that is very sensitive and causing issues when I am chewing. I also have 1 wisdom tooth that doesn’t look great it looks really discoloured and another which hasn’t yet come through but you can see it. I am starting to get worried about my teeth as they all seem to look a little discoloured these days. Does discolouration mean I have bad teeth. Please help.

Regards.
