My Girlfriend Has Fluorosis Throughout Her Teeth. Can It Be Removed Naturally Or By A Dentist?

Q.
My girlfriend is 23 years old and has fluorosis pigmentation throughout her teeth. Can it be decreased or removed naturally or through a dentist? I have found some natural remedies given in other websites but they all are meant for children. Can this be cured for adults? I am not sure whether she has undergone a treatment during childhood which has caused this. Could you help us solve this problem as I find it difficult to find much information on the condition for adults. Thank you, I look forward to hearing your reply.

Hello and thank you for your question. The management of fluorosis is very much dependent on the nature of the ‘mottling’ and how far it penetrates the enamel. If it is very superficial, then it can be simply managed with micro abrasion using a mild acid and pumice. However if the fluorosis is deeper into the enamel it may require a less conservative approach which involves removing the effected enamel and filling the defects with a tooth coloured filling material. Other treatments include dental veneers which are used in severe cases. I would recommend seeing a dentist to discuss the options. I hope this helps and good luck. Kind regards Marcus Gambroudes.
