i have crowns which need replacing which one is best the lava crowns or the nhs ones?

Q.
Hi i have 8 crowns which need replacing also a bridge.i have visited a private dentist and seen my nhs dentist .i have been given different opinions ,after having xrays 2 dark shadows show there are pockets of infection due to unsuccessful root treatment 18 yrs ago.this has never given me a problem and i was not aware of it.one dentist says i should re do the root treatment before replacing the crowns the other says not to touch it as its never bothered me in all these years.what is your opinion on this.also one priced for lava crowns and the other would be nhs,do you think there would be any noticeable difference in them.i really cat decide if its best to go with the private one or stick with the nhs.is it the case that a nice swanky practise with more up to date facilities can give a better result.please help im very confused, thanks

I would need a post and a crown i live in kingston upon thames what would be a normal price?

Hi there I broke a tooth on the weekend. It is a tooth that has been repeatedly filled and had a root canal done some years ago. I went to my dentist and he said that I would need a post and a crown. He quoted me £900 for this. This seems somewhat excessive. Is this a normal price for this kind of work? I live in Kingston-upon-Thames.

my dentist advised me that i need a gold crown as it will provide protection can you advice

Hi, following a recent x-ray & examination of a tooth, my Dentist has advised me that I need a gold crown as it will provide the best long-term protection. I’ve heard about health concerns relating to mercury used for some treatment but noticed a recent enquiry mentioning no mercury content in a gold crown. I’m also considering a 2nd opinion as I would prefer enamel. Can you please advise. Thanks.

Is it possible to have just a crown on my tooth without a root canal? can it cover half the teeth

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q.
Hello Dr. Moore: I went to the dentist yesterday and told him I had an occasional sensitive feeling in my lower left molar when I chewed certain food like a piece of muscle in meat. He took a look at the molar and said there was a vertical fracture in the back of the molar that went to the gumline. He said it probably needed a crown. I knew nothing about crowns, so when I researched on the internet it says that usually the perform a root canal on a cracked tooth before putting on a crown. Is it possible to put just a crown on my tooth without a rootcanal? Also, I read that porcelain crowns tend to cause unequal biting pressure on the opposite side tooth causing quicker wear. So I was thinking the best kind of crown would be a high noble metal crown. Is a high noble metal crown gold? One other question, does a crown have to cover the entire tooth down to the gumline or can it just cover like half or 3/4 of the entire tooth?

i have a constant pain on my temporary crowned teeth can you advice me on it

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q.
Hello. i had a black tooth at the front and have had a temporary crown fitted months ago. I have constant pain as bruising when brushing my teeth and around the gum of that crown is sore to touch. Two dentists have checked it and cannot seem to find a solution. They think maybe the root is fractured. I never had pain from this tooth until now. When i first went back to the dentist he felt the post may have been too long and shortened it. I am wondering if that is the cause as i have a severe over bite. The restorative dentist today told me that if it cant be resolved, i should have the tooth extracted and have a plate with false tooth on as he would not recommend a bridge. Why is a bridge not a good idea? Two years ago i had the lower teeth built up due to severe wear, and i have considered the lower jaw to be operated on. Now i am having problems with the top teeth i really dont know where to turn. I would like to see a specialist who can advise me on all aspects of my dental problems. any advice would be really appreciated

my one year old crown is smooth and worn could i have worn down a crown this quickly

Thursday, May 21st, 2009
Q.
I have three crowns on my teeth. One of my crowns has been hurting a pit and is pressure sensitive. The pain is minimal but because I have had so much dental work I have concern. This tooth has been canalled and has been treated by an endo and given the all clear to be crowned. I have been wearing the crown for over a year. My other two crowns are white all over but this crown appears to look grey on the top surface and is smooth and worn. Do you think I could have worn down a crown this quickly? Thanks,

could you tell me what sort of crown is best to avoid the dreaded gum line any advice

Monday, May 18th, 2009
Q.
I recently visited a dentist to have three private crowns fitted assuming colour choice etc would be better. I clearly stated that I wanted to avoid a grey line at the gum and agreed to three ceramic crowns at £500 each. However at the appoint to start the procedure, the dentist said they were going to fit porcelain crowns and when I again mentioned a ‘grey line’, they said it would be an extra £50 per tooth to avoid this. Then when it came to choosing colour, they pulled out a rack with about 8 different shades each on a little wire. They were all quite yellow and none as white as my other teeth (which aren’t overly white anyway). They told me that if I wanted anything white, I would have to travel to a dental lab… and it would add a further £50 to the overall price. Surely, when paying for private cosmetic dentistry, you should have more of a colour choice. Also, could you tell me what sort of crown is best to avoid the dreaded grey gum line. Any advice or guidance is much appreciated, thank you.
