I still don’t like the shape and size of the crowns what are my options

Friday, April 3rd, 2009
Q.
Hi, When I was 20 I had crowns fitted to my two front upper teeth following an accident. The whole process was very traumatic and took many many months as I was under the care of a London Teaching Hospital. It was in the 1960’s and I am now 60 yrs old. I have never been happy with the look and think the crowns are too big. I would like a better look and smile ( though not hollywood dazzling!). My own local dentist suggested whitening which I had done 2 years ago- but I still don’t like the shape and size of the crowns. Could I achieve a better effect quickly and easily with replacement crowns? I wanted veneers but I understand they don’t work if teeth have been replaced by crowns already. thanks

Friday, April 3rd, 2009
Q.
Which crowns are the closest in translucency to natural teeth. Would zirconial crowns compare to porcelain/ceramic? This would be for front teeth. Thank you

My latest (NHS) dentist says a crown can’t be fitted because the tooth is filled too low below the gum line

Friday, April 3rd, 2009
Q.
Had a cracked tooth deep filled and was told if this failed I could have a crown fitted. The tooth is now causing problems, but my latest (NHS) dentist says a crown can’t be fitted because the tooth is filled too low below the gum line. Is this likely to be correct – I’m worried that financial considerations within the practice may be limiting the options they offer.

I feel like the crown has moved there is no pain

Friday, April 3rd, 2009
Q.
I have had a run of bad luck with my left front tooth. I had a cap removed and replaced with a vaneer for cosmetic reasons then soon after had to have a root canal and crown fitted. After 3 years of going backwards and forwards to a specialist I have finally got a crown that feels ok, however the other night I trapped a bit of choclate between the tooth and the tooth next door, tried to get it out of with my tongue and it felt like the crown has moved. After close inspection it doesnt look aestically like it has moved but is there a possibility it may have either moved or just settled into a different position? I had the crown fitted 8 weeks ago and the incident happend last week. I am not in any pain but the tooth sometimes feels perculiar. Thanks,

Cost of crown replacement with NHS

Friday, April 3rd, 2009
Q.
I had a crown fitted (right front tooth, top) about 30 years ago which included work into the gum (including metal pin fitted). Two days ago, I tripped and fell and broke the whole crown off from the gum. I would like to know how much a replacement would cost, baring in mind I am currently unemployed and appreciate costs normally run into hundreds of pounds? I am currently not registered with a dentist and wonder if it could be done on the NHS?
