Should I get crown to replace discoloured tooth?

Monday, January 18th, 2010
Q.
About 20 years ago I had an abscess of the tooth just next to the top front tooth. My dentist performed a root canal and put a post in the tooth, but said I didn’t need a crown. He said I should just be careful not to bite into hard foods with that tooth. All seemed fine until a long while later (years) I noticed that tooth was yellowing in color. All of my teeth are slightly yellow (I don’t have the bleached white look), but this one is much darker and more yellowed than the others and it really stands out when I smile. I seem to wonder if this tooth had been crowned, should have been crowned, should get crowned, to rectify this? I understand that bleaching won’t last and would have to be redone periodically? My smile looks horrible now due to this more yellowed tooth. What should I do?,

Porcelain crown pushed forward and worried something is wrong

Friday, January 15th, 2010
Q.
Hi Mr Moore, I have a porcelain crown as one of my front teeth it is on a metal post,I have a very bad habit of grinding and clenching my teeth(I even clench my teeth when I fall asleep on the sofa, cinema, ect). This has resulted in me gainiCrown ng super developed muscles in my jaw, braking off bits of teeth but more importantly I believe it is through this I have pushed my crown forward, even though I wear a hard guard in the night. A few months ago I noticed what I would describe as a blood blister above the tooth, when I applied pressure it bled, more recently the blister has moved up my gum, along the line of the root. I have visited a dentist who x-rayed my teeth and gums he could find nothing but as I can feel some sort of mild pressure, but no pain, am frightened of biting into food. The dentist who replaced the crown around 4 years ago did dislodge the post and replaced it free of charge. Please can you shed any light on my problem. Kind regards,

Would new crown make colour of teeth more obvious?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
I have crowns on my front 4 teeth one of which is a bridging crown. My front right tooth appears to be twisting and a gap of approx 1mm has developed over the years. Is there any procedure available to close the gap other than removing the crown and fitting a new one. I have had the crowns for the past 25 yeras and am concerned that if it was changed then there would be an obvious change in the colour of my front teeth with new crown. Any ideas for the best way forward.,

What treatment is there for protruding tooth?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hello Dr. Tennet!! I desperately need your help! My question concerns one of my upper canine teeth. This tooth didn’t come in until I was about 16 and slowly grew. I am nearly 19 now, and I think it has pretty much halted growth; however, it sits higher in my jaw when compared to all my other teeth, giving it a ‘shorter’ appearance. I definitely don’t want braces. Can you suggest something for me? Thank you so much in advance and I really look forward to hearing from you!!

Do damaged crowns really need replacing?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010
Q.
Hi there, my two front teeth are crowns and they have been damaged as i was elbowed in the mouth, i went to my dentists and they said that i will have to have both crowns off and in the meantime a denture and then i can have implants. Is this my best option and why do i have to have a denture in the meantime can i not just get my bone density checked with xrays and ct scan and then start the process of having the implants, many thanks,

What options are there if unsure about getting dental crown?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Hello There; I am 54 female and advised by my dentist to have Crown PORC/Lava Crown UPGRA placed on 7 & 10 teeth. Additional he advised to go ahead and add 8 & 9 to that because it will be easier to have them all addressed at the same time, for size, match, etc. I’m at a loss and worried it may make my smile worse with more problems. Any advise?,
