Should I get crown to replace discoloured tooth?

Q. About 20 years ago I had an abscess of the tooth just next to the top front tooth. My dentist performed a root canal and put a post in the tooth, but said I didn’t need a crown. He said I should just be careful not to bite into hard foods with that tooth. All seemed fine until a long while later (years) I noticed that tooth was yellowing in color. All of my teeth are slightly yellow (I don’t have the bleached white look), but this one is much darker and more yellowed than the others and it really stands out when I smile. I seem to wonder if this tooth had been crowned, should have been crowned, should get crowned, to rectify this? I understand that bleaching won’t last and would have to be redone periodically? My smile looks horrible now due to this more yellowed tooth. What should I do?,
A. Your dentist was quite correct not to give you a crown.  This is only necessary on back teeth to prevent them from splitting.  At this stage I would try internal bleaching of the problem tooth to make it fit in with your smile
