My Mum Has A Bad Phobia Of Dentists. Can She Get Help From Anywhere?

May 13th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. My mum is 49 and she has got a real bad phobia of dentists due to her brother struggling to come round after having a tooth out as a kid. Now she’s lost most of her teeth and suffering from severe depression and she never leaves the house. She is on benefits. Can she get help from anywhere? I just want her to live her life not hide away. She has never had her photo taken and rarely smiles. She hasn’t been to a dentist since she was 9 years old. Thanks.

I Have Discoloured Teeth And My Gums Are Weak. I’m Not After A Hollywood Makeover, I Just Want To Know What Can Be Done?

May 13th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew. I am in my fifties and I have discoloured greyish teeth. I also have quite a lot of metal fillings and three crowns, one of which is in the front and does not match in colour or shape to my other teeth. My teeth and gums are quite weak. I have tried to have improvements carried out by my dentist but they have not worked out that well. I have lost all my confidence and don’t know where to turn to. I would like to have a nice smile with normal looking teeth. I’m not after a Hollywood makeover. I would like to know what can be done, have trust in the people doing it and what the end result would look like.

I’ve Had Two Root Canals And I Still Have And Infection. What Would Be Your Opinion On This?

May 13th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I’ve been back for my 2nd root canal treatment as my dentist did not remove all of the abscess the 1st time. My problem is that I have a very large soft lump on the roof of my mouth that my dentist said I should keep poking just in case any infection is left but I’m finding that is is very sensitive. When I do this I cannot see it going down so I am now at my wits end as a 3rd course of treatment fills me with dread. I’m due do go back in 10 days for my dentist for a check over. I would just like your opinion on this? Thank you for your time.

My Gums Are Receding From Every Tooth. Is It Possible To Have A Gum Graft For Such A Large Area?

May 12th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I am having terrible trouble with my gums receding. It started about 10 years ago but with dental treatment it stopped at a level I could cope with but in the last few months it has started up again and now I would say my gums have receded from every tooth and worse of all this morning my top two teeth now have a small gap between them. I am currently on anti-biotics. I have been reading up on gum graphs but is this possible for such a large area? This is badly affecting my life now as I am losing my self-confidence in public and I hate to smile. I hope you can advise me on what to do? Thank you for your time.

Can You Suggest Appropriate Methods To Replace Missing Teeth Which Might Be More Secure Than Those I Currently Use?

May 12th, 2014
Q.

I am 41 years old, non;smoker, general good health. My teeth are fine but owing to a 15 year gap in visits to the dentist I (according to an X-ray image), I now have advanced gum disease which will not respond to treatment, at least at a non specialist level. Consequently the rear molar on either side of the lower jaw has been removed and according to my dentist this now leaves my bottom teeth in a stable state. However 2 front teeth on the upper jaw have also been removed
and the 3 behind the right canine
also have infection beneath them and thus are scheduled for removal in near future. I already have a small denture for the missing front teeth but this has to be removed in order to eat any but the softest foods. If all these teeth are removed is any infection
likely to be contained? Can you suggest appropriate methods to replace missing teeth which might
be more secure than those I currently use?

Hello Mark. Does Invisalign Have To Be Paid Off In One Lump Sum Or Can It Be Paid Off Monthly?

May 12th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark, I hope you can help me. I was just wondering if the Invisalign treatments have to be paid in a just one lump sum or if it can be paid monthly or something like that? I live up North, so I would be using the practice that would be closest to me. I have an over-bite and my top teeth are almost straight though my bottom set are in need of sorting, therefore if there is somewhere I can pay it monthly I will definitely book mine as soon as I know. Thank you in advance for your advice.

I Have To Clench My Teeth To Keep My Dentures In. I Would Be Grateful If You Could Help Me With This Matter?

May 12th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I would like to ask you what the cost of a full set of dental implants would be? I have an Ill fitting upper denture (this is the 3rd one) and I hate having it in my mouth. I am constantly having to clench my teeth to keep it in which gives me headaches. I have my bottom teeth, except a bridge of three in the front which really don’t match, needless to say I am very conscious of
this and don’t smile like I used to. I really don’t know what to do, can you help with this matter? I would be grateful if you can give me some advice.
Thank you.

I Get Sensitive Teeth But My Dentist Won’t Do Anything About It. What Would You Suggest I Do?

May 9th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I still have all my baby teeth apart from the front two on the top and bottom. I am now 19. They’re not loose, however they are painful. When I eat or drink certain things my teeth send a bolting ice pain that shoots through them and it really hurts. It makes me feel really down about my smile as with them being so small they make my mouth appear ‘gappy’. My previous dentist doesn’t really pay attention to my teeth maybe this is because I was an NHS customer. However now I work full time and I pay but I still don’t receive a service where he will look into the issues I’m having. What would you suggest I do? Thank you for your time.

I Don’t Like To Wear My Hard Denture. Can You Tell Me If The Rubber Ones Are More Comfortable?

May 9th, 2014
Q.

Dear Andrew. I have had movement of one of my front teeth and the gum has receded back. It’s been like this for some time. The tooth itself is not loose but it has dropped down and is a bit twisted. For the past month I have had a bit of sensitive pain with it. I know it needs to come out but I’ve put it off as I already have one tooth missing. I have a hard denture which I dont like to wear as it covers the roof of my mouth and I don’t like the feel of it. I only wear it now and again as you can’t really tell. My problem is if I were to have the front tooth out I will need to wear a denture all the time and can’t stand the thought of a hard denture. My dentist has shown me a rubber type denture and I wondered if this might be the better option? Thanks.
