I’ve Had Two Root Canals And I Still Have And Infection. What Would Be Your Opinion On This?

Q.
Hello Dr Moore. I’ve been back for my 2nd root canal treatment as my dentist did not remove all of the abscess the 1st time. My problem is that I have a very large soft lump on the roof of my mouth that my dentist said I should keep poking just in case any infection is left but I’m finding that is is very sensitive. When I do this I cannot see it going down so I am now at my wits end as a 3rd course of treatment fills me with dread. I’m due do go back in 10 days for my dentist for a check over. I would just like your opinion on this? Thank you for your time.
A.
Hello. If it’s still swollen then the infection might not be clearing with the root canal treatment, it sounds like quite a severe infection that might not resolve despite what your dentist does. You may need to consider whether the tooth should be removed but see what your dentist says as they might be able to try something different. It’s difficult to say without seeing you in person. Best wishes, Dr Andrew Moore.
