I Had Braces For An Overbite But My Arch Wasn’t Widened To My Liking. Can This Be Done?

Monday, October 20th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I had overbite and two teeth removed for braces. My arch wasn’t widened at all really and I have a narrow smile and huge dark spaces at either side. My bite is good now but I’m not happy with the aesthetics.
My orthodontist assured me he that did his best but I feel like I had two teeth removed for nothing as now I’m realising they would of helped achieve a wider smile.
My gums at the very side/back are more visible but my orthodontist told me that contouring isn’t for teeth like mine.
Is there a way of widening my arch?
Thanks.

Invisalign Won’t Work As My Overbite Is Too Big. Please Let Me Know If There Are Any Other Options Available?

Tuesday, September 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes,
I am 18 years old. When I was little I sucked my thumb and it caused a drastic overbite and I had to have surgery because the skin where my upper lip meets my gums caused a big gap in my front teeth. I hate how my teeth look, but I don’t want braces for years because I get such severe canker sores in my mouth. Is there any faster form of braces or anything that may cause less mouth pain or prone to sores. If I do have to go with braces I would at least like to know if there are any fast and reliable choices. Invisalign won’t work because my over bite is too big. Please let me know if there any other options available. Thanks!

Thursday, August 14th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I really need a complete mouth makeover. I have a big overbite and gaps etc. I need an expert job as fast as possible with as little noticeable as possible. I need all options, even pulling them all out and having permanent fakes.
I am an actor and model and this is holding my work back as well as making me extremely self conscious with this problem. I need this done fast and price is a factor so I need all options.
Thank you for your time. I look forward to your reply.

I Am A Teacher And I Lack Confidence As My Teeth Have Gaps Between Them? Which Treatment Should I Be Looking Into?

Friday, August 1st, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I am 23 years old and the problem is my front teeth. They are coming out a little front and there are gaps between the teeth. Every day they seem to be coming out even further. I am in the profession of teaching which isn’t good because I lack confidence in my teeth. I have consulted my family doctor and he suggested for me to consider clip treatment which takes nearly 2 years, but at this age I am not interested in that treatment. Could you please suggest to me any other form of treatment for this problem other than clip treatment. Waiting for your answer, thank you.

I Want An Improved Profile But I Don’t Want Invasive Jaw Surgery. Is There Any Other Cosmetic Dental Treatment That Can Help Me Fix My Deep Overbite?

Monday, June 30th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I have a deep overbite. I visited a dentist and they told me to a have jaw surgery. This is something I’m extremely scared of. I only want to make my profile look better. I am interested to know if I would be a good candidate for cosmetic dentistry and if possible, how would I be treated, will it be veneers, braces or other ways to treat my overbite? Also I would like to know if properly treated how long can the veneers last as I am 18 years old. Thank you for your time.

I Am 18 Years Old And My Teeth Are In Bad Shape. Will My NHS Dentist Cover The Cost?

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Moore. I am 18 years old and my teeth are horrible, my bottom teeth aren’t straight and my top set are really over crowded. I have either the top right canine or lateral incisor missing (there is no gap though) and on the top right I have the adult canine behind the lateral incisor and my baby canine is still there. When I was young my dentist never mentioned braces but now I’m older it’s really affected me. Will my dentist through the NHS cover the cost of braces? Thank you.

I Need Braces, But I Don’t Want My Teeth Extracted. Is There Any Other Treatment That Could Help Me?

Tuesday, March 25th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. I am a college student, I’m 19 years old and I don’t actually have extremely bad teeth but the major problem is that my upper jaw is a bit out. I even asked for braces from the dentist but he said that braces are possible only after 5 extractions, but I don’t wish to extract my teeth. I tend to hesitate when I smile. My teeth aren’t very long. They are white, short and clustered but not too much overcrowding. Could you please suggest something to help me? Thanks.

Hello Mark. I’m 31 And I Have An Overbite Which Hurts When I Close My Mouth. What Treatment Would You Suggest To Correct My Bad Bite?

Thursday, March 20th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I’m 31 and I’ve got both upper and lower arches with teeth inclined inward, not much but enough to have an overbite which causes the jaw going too behind when completely closed and it gets stuck every time I open my mouth. Yes it hurts. And I’ve also come to realise this malocclusion is the cause of my scoliosis. No dentist has ever noticed anything wrong with my teeth, I wouldn’t necessarily call them good dentists. What treatment do you suggest to push them outward? Thank you for taking the time to answer my question.

I Have Just Realised I’ve Got An Overbite. Does It Require Surgery To Fix And How Much Does It Cost?

Wednesday, February 19th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I just found out that I have an overbite, and I think its a major overbite, I never thought about it before because I thought everyone’s mouth was like that but then I Googled why my top teeth were too far in front of my bottom teeth, then found out about the overbite. My question is, how is overbite cured? And how much will it cost in the UK? And if it is surgery to cure, what is the chance that everything will be okay? I’m 13 years old. Thank you.
