What Dental Cosmetic Options Are There Other Than Braces To Close A Gap?

Thursday, October 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I hope you can help me. I was just wondering if there is any other options for me other than braces? Basically the lateral incisor on the right side of my mouth sticks out, and there is only about a 3 mm gap between the teeth behind it. It also seems to push back the central incisor. I want anything other than metal braces or invisalign. I’d like a quick fix option ideally and I don’t mind having teeth removed etc. What are my options?

Kind regards.

Would You Recommend Using Tooth Gap Bands For Any Of Your Patients? I Need To Fix The Gap In My Smile.

Thursday, October 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. Would you recommend any of your patients to use: Teeth Gap Bands? For closing a gap in the front of someone’s teeth. I seen this website online, and it mentioned a less expensive way to close your gap and I was wondering if you think it would be safe to use.  I’ve read some reviews on their website and I want to try it because I will not be able to afford braces because my insurance doesn’t cover it. I would say my gap is about 2 inches wide and I want to get it closed. Thank you for your time.

I Have Pain At The Back Of My Mouth and My Cheek Is Swollen. What Could This Be?

Wednesday, October 1st, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes, Could you help me? I have pain on the left hand side at the back and my teeth ache all the time and hurts to open my mouth wide and to eat. At the back, where the pain is, it looks white as if there is a tooth about to emerge. When closing my mouth it feels like there is something hard in the way. Also my cheek is slightly swollen. I can feel the pain going up to my ear. What could this be? I need something that can take the pain away. Thank you.

Hi There Dr Mark. My Self Esteem Is Low As I Have Gaps In My Smile. How Much Would It Cost To Get Them Fixed?

Wednesday, October 1st, 2014
Q.

Hi there Dr Mark,
I’m a 19 year old girl who has a terrible self-esteem because of her teeth. I’m not confident – at all! My front bottom teeth are gapped, which makes it look like I have a missing tooth, and often people think that I’ve lost a tooth. Not only that, but one of my front teeth has tooth discolouration, and I’ve never been confident enough to smile, ever – I don’t think I ever have, to be honest. Anyway, I’m thinking of getting them fixed asap, but I’m wondering about how much – roughly – would it cost me?
Thank you!

As An NHS Patient I Had Two Dental Crowns And One Was Badly Matched. Is It Possible To Change This Crown?

Tuesday, September 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi. I am a NHS patient, recently I had two crowns replaced within a year, the first was a great colour match, the second which is next to the first is awful, yellow and darker. They were both done by the same dentist. I said when having the second crown I would like to have the same colour, then the dentist and nurse started looking at different colours and decided to make the change of colour assuring me I would hardly notice the difference, I just agreed, as I was happy with the first crown. When I went for the fitting it was put in, very rushed, I just put it down to being a busy morning, I had to ask for a mirror, which was a waste of time without my glasses. When I got home I was so disappointed that it’s not matching, it’s yellow. It looks so false next to the first crown. I have my 6 month appointment soon. Is it possible to change the crown, as it was free on the NHS?

I Would Like To Know How Soon I Should Get A Referral For A Dental Implant After Having A Tooth Extracted?

Tuesday, September 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I have just had my lower 6 removed today with a great deal of drilling and discomfort and it’s still bleeding 6 hours later. This is following several failed attempts at a root canal to make ready for a crown. That treatment started in May 2013! Once again I had toothache last week and again over the weekend so asked them for an extraction today. I heal very quickly, my dentist was surprised how fast I healed when my wisdom teeth were extracted. I’d like to know how soon I should get a referral for an implant? My dentist said to wait 4 months before doing anything but I wondered if sooner would be beneficial?

Many thanks.

I Can’t Afford To Have A Bone Graft With Dental Implants. Would A Unit 4 Bridge Attached To Implants Be Less Costly?

Monday, September 29th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I’ve had a bridge for roughly 15 years, it was for one missing central incisor due to a accident as a child but my other central incisor which the wing is attached to is failing and needs to be extracted.  I want implants but due to bone loss I’d need a bone graft for both my two front teeth which I can’t afford as well as dental implants, could I remove both lateral incisors to get immediate implants with a 4 unit bridge to avoid bone graft? Thank you.

I Would Like To Know Which Material Is Best For Making Dental Crowns? How Much Does This Cost?

Monday, September 29th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I would like your advice. I want to know the best material with regards to dental crowns. What price should I be looking at? I am currently undergoing dental treatment in hospital and I need a crown? I would like to know what material you use so I can tell my dentist. It’s difficult being from another country to know what works best and where to obtain these materials. Thank you in advance for your reply.

I Have A Central Incisor Which Sits Behind The Rest Of My Smile. What Can Be Done To Fix This?

Friday, September 26th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I have this upper left central incisor situated around 0.7 cm behind the rest of the teeth. It gives the impression as if that tooth is missing when I talk. It affects my social life a lot.
This problem has persisted since my childhood. The misplaced tooth was on the process of eruption while the milk tooth at that place was not falling off. So by the time the milk tooth fell off, the permanent tooth had already developed into the present place. I am now 23 years old.
Please tell me about my available options for the treatment of my condition.
Thank you.

My Teeth Are So Sensitive I Can’t Get Them Whitened. Why Does My Dentist Tell Me That My Teeth Are Healthy?

Friday, September 26th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have extremely sensitive teeth which causes severe pain in my face. They are also crooked & discoloured causing me embarrassment & I am really self conscious about them. I can’t whiten them as they are so sensitive. My front teeth are also moving as I am developing a gap in between them that I have never had before. My dentist isn’t very good & offers me no advice just saying there is nothing wrong with them. I have got to the point where I actually want them removing & replacing with natural looking dentures. Is this possible when I have, according to my dentist ‘healthy teeth’?
