Dentist removed the root of the heavily filled molar but still i have a pain any idea on the causes

Monday, July 27th, 2009
Q.
I have had intermittent pain in my upper teeth for some years. My Dentist and I could never clearly identify which tooth the pain came, whether it be from either a heavily filled molar tooth or a crown with a root filling. Last week the pain became constant, pulsting and throbbing.I visited a emergency dentist who removed the root of the heavily filled molar and put a temporay filling in.However four days post this ,the pain is as bad as ever. The emergency dentist took xrays that didn’t show any infection. Could the pain come from my crowned molar with the root filling in? The pain is getting me down but I am keen to hang on to my teeth. To compound the issue I am holiday at the moment so can not get to my regular dentist Any ideas on the cause. Thanks

How long should I wait after the dental root extraction before the implant could be inserted?

Friday, July 24th, 2009
Q.
How long should I wait after the dental root extraction before the implant could be inserted? I am a generally healthy 37 year old and the X-ray of the area was normal. Would a pregnancy be a contraindication for the procedure? Are Straumann implants a good choice? Thank you very much.

Will the root canal treatment affect the appearance of the veneers

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr, I hope you might be ale to give me some advice. I have veneers on my four front teeth. Unfortunately one of the very front ones has been painful ever since they were done and now my dentist tells me that I need a root canal treatment on this tooth. I am gutted as the veneers are beautiful and I’m worried not only about the appearance of the veneers being spoiled by the rct but also the possibility of the tooth not lasting as long as the others. In your experience, is it likely that a root canal done on a veneered tooth will look worse aesthetically afterwards eg. discoluration etc showing through the veneer? I am ever so concerned and would really appreciate your advice, thank you

Im now 42, when i was 13 i had 2 top front teeth knocked out by cricket ball. both false teeth are held in the gum by white gold bars. i now keep getting an absess in one of the root canals, and this is so painfull. all my dentist does is give me amoxicillin, which does not help much. is there anything else i could do as sometimes the pain brings me to tears? thanks

I am on immune suppressant drugs for arthrits will this affect the root canal treatments success

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
Hi – I have recently, somehow, cracked the third tooth from the back, lower jaw and on my right hand side. My dentist has removed the filling that was already there and put in a dressing which has eased the pain. I have now to decide whether to opt for route canal treatment and a crown or complete extraction. He advises the former. However I am wondering if it’s possible to simply have the route treament and then re-fill the tooth (to cut down on expense)? Another complicating factor is that I am on immuno suppressant drugs for arthrits – methotrexate and infliximab infusions (anti TNF treatment) and I wonder if this might affect the chances of a successful outcome. Basically I don’t want to go ahead and pay a lot of money if the route canal treament might not succeed anyway. Also, the corresponding tooth on the other side is nearly all filling so I suspect this won’t last too much longer either. Would I be best off opting for a crown for the one on the right hand side as they are both quite large teeth and presumably life would be difficult without both of them!! Would appreciate some objective advice from you. Many thanks

After the root canal treatment i was suffering from worst sinuses is the both related?

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009
Q.
Are you familiar with the work of Dr. Price who hypothized that old root canals methastize to form serious immune diseases. See http://www.whale.to/d/meinig.html for a refresher on this doctors beliefs. I have been plagued with bad sinus and for the last three years asthma. The sinus that I have trouble with is in the direct path of this old root canaled tooth. My dentist saw a shadow on an xray film and referred me to an endodontist who drilled through a fairly new cap to perform a retreatment. This all happened as he explained it would, with some pain a little swelling and I had the tooth filled by my regular dentist. A few days later I have come down with the worst sinuses and post nasal drip into my bronchioles causing fatigue and distress at being unable to breathe. In my mind the two are connected. If I follow Dr. Price’s therapy of having the tooth extracted in addition to the bony socket, would I then be a candidate for an implant. How long would I be toothless. It is the tooth right in front next to the largest tooth in the middle . I am vain, but seriously don’t think this tooth is worth all the sinus and asthmna trouble I have had. Please don’t tell me to see an allergist. I was under treatment for two years and only got worse. My diet is varied and I don’t eat a lot of junk food. How would I find a dental surgeon who subscribes to Dr. Price’s theories.
