Q.
Hello, i’d just like to know if i’m dentally ‘normal’?! i’m 32 years old, female, and work as a government researcher. i’ve got 7 fillings on my teeth (a couple very large) and a crown with a root treated tooth. is this normal for my age? i realise that everyone’s different, but, in terms of the cases you see everyday, does my dental work fit my age or have i had lots done? many thanks.

I had white filling in 5 teeth and now 4 are in pain. does it mean my dentist cant do white fillings

Saturday, July 11th, 2009
Q.
I had white fillings in 5 teeth recently (the first ones I have ever had done ie first time I went to a dentist). They were all molars, and were done in 3 seperate sessions. One was broken off, so the filling is close to a nerve and a liner was put in. All the teeth hurt after the fillings, and now, 3 months after the first 2 fillings, and a few weeks after the the last 4 out of the 5 teeth are hurting after cold or hot food/drinks, and also sometimes without any obvious reason. I only had some pain in ONE out of the 5 teeth before, now pain in 4! When I told my dentist he said the fillings will need to be replaced, and if that does not solve it they need a root canal! It just seems mad to possibly end up with a root canal on 3 teeth that never caused me a problem before I went to a dentist. Actually this has put me off ever going again. Does it mean my dentist can’t do white fillings very well, and if so would it be any use to have them redone by the same person? Would I have to pay again? And how long should I wait to see if the pain still settles by itself? Would it be any use to not eat any hot or cold things, ie could that help the teeth to settle, or will it make no difference..? Thanks

I had root canal done and i was not comfortable with caps will veneers or lumineers suit me

Thursday, July 9th, 2009
Q.
Dear Sir, I had a root canal done on my front two teeth about 8 years back. The dentist had advised me to go for a dental caps however i was not too comfortable with caps hence did not go with it and let the teeth be. After so many years, the teeth have dulled and chipped a bit. I have heard about Lumineers and have heard they do not require grinding of the surface. I am really comfortable with the idea of veneers/lumineers rather than caps which require so much of grinding of teeth. Please advise whether lumineers would be suitable or i will have to opt for Caps. Thanks

Ive a serve phobia of dentist and i have two pretty deep cavities could i have root canal treatment

Tuesday, July 7th, 2009
Q.
Hi Dr, I have a severe phobia of dentists following a bad experience when I was younger. I have two pretty deep cavities one at each side at the back top teeth, I can stick my tounge quite far into one of them and I have extremely bad breath which I’m guessing is a result of these. I have finally found the courage to go to the dentist and will go soon. I am only 25 years old and cannot bear the thought of extraction and would quite happily have root canal and crowns. I’m wondering if there are any instances where root canal cannot be used and extraction is the only option? I really don’t want to have missing teeth at 25, even if it is the back teeth! My confidence is so low, I’m so aware of my breath it’s ruining my life and as i have just graduated, I feel I cannot be a proffessional the way my teeth and breath are at the moment. Kind regards

I can’t auctually tell you which one hurts at times my whole left side hurts top and buttom,I’ll have a day where it seems good then it will just flare up.this has been going on for a month please help I was back to the dentist he gave me options of pulling them or root canals. but why did this start after the fillings they were filled within a week and a half of each other he said there was really nothing that he seen that should be causing me this problem.

How soon after having my toot extraction can i have my teeth whitened?

Monday, July 6th, 2009
Q.
I am having a top molar extracted tomorrow as I have an abcess in the roots. Because I have already had root canal treatment on this tooth my dentist is unable to save it. This means I will have lost a total of 4 molars on the top and will now need to look at having false teeth of some kind. Because of this I am looking at getting my teeth whitened before I get a soft flexi plate made. How soon after having my tooth extraction can I have my teeth whitened? Also the dental clinic I am looking at getting the whitening done, (I came across it on the internet and the prices are really cheap) doesn’t have any agencies/governing bodies named on their website ie; GDC or BACD. Does this mean they are dodgy and I should avoid them. They claim to whiten teeth with the new “Ultra-whitening” treatment in 15minutes and the treatment does not use any bleach. They just put a gel on your gums and use a laser. Does this sound right? As all the other websites I have looked at seem to use a bleach based treatment.

after a crown preparation on a back molar i felt a slight pain do i need a root canal

Monday, July 6th, 2009
Q.
After crown preparation on a back molar I have slight pain when I bite and it is sensitive to cold. My question is should I ask for a root canal before the crown is placed next week I did have an xray and was told I did not need a root canal. The crown is needed due to a large amalgam filling that showed cracks.
