I have a curved root and NHS does not have the instruments to perform root canal

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
I am in the middle of root canal work but have been told that my tooth root is curved and that the instruments used to treat a curved root arent available on the nhs.i have seen my x ray and the root is indeed curved. the dentist says this may be because i grind that side of my jaw during the night. he states he can refer me to a private dentist, but the cost of this work would be around £800 – £1000. is this correct? and could this not be completed by another dentist with the right equipment on the nhs.the tooth has also now cracked and im in need of a crown whereas i was just having a cap, this is costing £198 so i dont really want to be spending alot more than that. could you advise on this please?

Will braces work when my son has to have his root canal

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
My son is to get braces in May…he broke his front tooth out and now has to have a root canal and the tooth built back(no crown until he is 19-20 says the dentist). My question is will braces work now? Also, my son has straight teeth on top and the bottom front is not straight-my son says he doesnt want braces because he doesnt see anything wrong with his teeth…should I invest in braces or leave him alone?

I think I have an abscess on front tooth which already has a crown. After root canal treatment, can same crown be used or would I need a new one?

I think I have an abscess on front tooth which already has a crown. After root canal treatment, can same crown be used or would I need a new one? Already having another crown removed because of abscess and getting an implant but cannot afford two implants at £2000 each. Is there any particular reason why both crowns would develop abscesses at same time?

Is root canal treatment appropriate for sensitive teeth?

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009
Q.
I had a filling in october 2007. My tooth has always been very sensitive to cold and hot stuff since the filling. The tooth is however not painful except recently when I try to bite on it. Secondly, if a put a sweet or anything sweet on the surface of the filling its very very painful. My dentist recently recommended a root canal treatmet. Do you think it would be the appropriate treatment considering the tooth is not painful but just sensitive to hot/cold and to feeling like when a spoon touches it.The tooth in question is the first molar. What could be the problem

I have become sensitive to the new filling

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi I had part of the side of a molar that is next to a removed tooth years ago fell away, mild aching, sensitive really, saw my dentist who removed the rest of the filling then placed a tempery filling in it to see if it settled down, I had no problems but unfortunatly this came out 10 days later due to me biting something hard,I returned to him and he said he was happy to put in a perminent filling, due to me not experiencing any problems.Since then i have had continueing sensitivity on eating, drinking hot and cold and now on taking in air ,inside and outside the house.I am not sure about going back to him as he is new to me as my old dentist that I trusted implicently retired and he took on the practice.Heseems nice enough just wasnt convinced on my last visit ,that he did the treament correctly, didnt apear to put much filler in my tooth despite proding it an awfull lot.I know he will want to do root canal,as this is what he spoke of last time,I am at a loss to know whether this would be the way to go ,as I experienced no problems when the tempery filling was in,can you advise me please,on my best course of action or treatment.Do I go somewhere else for treatment,or return to him,for root canal.I am on a monthly private scheme. Regards

Infection in teeth aftet root canal treatment

Monday, March 30th, 2009
Q.
My current dentist has started me on a treatment plan. today he has told me that as well as this plan i will then need another treatment plan at a cost of minimum £1400. I am shocked that what I believed to have been the entire treatment is costing me £1800 and now there will be a further £1400 minimum to pay later. The story starts like this I went to an NHS dentist they sent me to a consultant he advised exstraction of my two back teeth,or implants. I decided two implants would cost to much so was going to opt for one implant and an exstraction, as this would be cheaper. I went to a private dentist who told me that the best course of action was to try and save the teeth inspite of the large decay and infection that had eaten the bottoms of the teeth away and this whole treatment would cost £1800 this includeds 3 normal fillings. an implant would have cost about £2000 so I was happy with this. But now it seems that I will have to pay an un-exspected £1400 and I am also at the mercy of the infection not clearing up, in which case all root canal treatment leading up to this will have been a total waste of time. I hope this has given you enoughth information, could you please give me your exspert advice on this.
