I had a root canal done about six weeks ago and I’m still experiencing sensitivity. Will the tooth settle or should I seek more treatment?

Q.
I had my very first root canal treatment about 6 weeks ago. I am still experiencing sensitivity. When I wake up in the morning there is no pain. The pain only occurs after grinding my teeth (chewing etc.) I spoke to my dentist who was very defensive and quite rude and told me to compare it with an appendix removal! He said to give it a lot longer to settle. Will the tooth settle, or would it be better to have an extraction and an implant? Please reply – I’m desperate!,

I recently had root canal treatment and now I would like my front teeth fixed. What are my options and what would the cost be?

Q.
Hi, I recently had root canal treatment on my front tooth and would like some cosmetic work done as my front two teeth don’t look so great. One of my front teeth is slightly crossed over the tooth which I had root canal and would like 2 new front teeth whether it be crowns or veneers, I’m not sure on the difference? How much would two front teeth cost? Thanks very much.,

I had a large white filling placed and now I’m experiencing a lot of problems with that tooth, what should I do?

Q.
Hi, im 26 and about a month ago i had a very lage white filling in one of my back lower molers as a small piece of the tooth cracked off due to decay. I have not been able to chew on it at all since but it has not been sensitive to hot and cold, or acheing. However, about a week ago it started to be painful and ache constantly. I have not been able to go without using pain killers during the day and have had a few sleepless nights. I went back to my dentist who adjusted the bite and also put a filling in my back tooth next to it as this had a small hole also. After the local wore off i was in pain again! The tooth can be very tender to touch and my whole jaw can ache at times. I had an emergency dental appointment at another dentist this morning and had an xray. There doesn’t seem to be an abcess or infection but the large fillling looks to have cracked or weakened a little near my gum line. My usual dentist said i will need root canal, however this dentist recommended a crown be fitted! Now i have to wait another week for an appointment with my usual dentist and i have no idea what to ask for! Can anyone recommend anything, im so lost with what to do from here and just what to not be in pain any longer! Thankyou!,

Should I see a cosmetic dentist to fix my damaged teeth?

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
I fell ill after returning from Afghanistan and collapsed, smashing my face off a wall. I lost one of my front teeth as a result and the others around it are cracked but have no functionality problems. I really liked my teeth before and had never had any work done on them – not even a filling. I’m 27 and having had root canal work done on the badly damaged tooth I now have a porcelain crown on the front tooth. The dentist and lab were very good and the tooth went back at least six times before the colour was good enough. It is a full porcelain crown made privately but the dentist was not a cosmetic one. The lab technician said that in 40 years he’d never seen anyone with such an unusual colour of teeth. The problem is that they are slightly translucent with a grey/yellow tinge and lots of white patches and layers that you can almost see through in places so they have found it hard to replicate exactly. In natural light the crown looks quite good but in any type of artifical light it looks greyer and darker than the other one and I’m finding myself covering my mouth when I laugh or smile. I’ve been led to believe that I have a strange colour of teeth and that this is probably the best it will ever be. Should I see a cosmetic dentist and risk spending even more money for something that might not be any better? Am I chasing the impossible? Or are there other options? Thanks.,

I’m still experiencing pain from root canal treatment I had done months ago, what should I do?

Friday, August 6th, 2010
Q.
I had a root canal done the beginning of April 2010. I still have lots of pain. Had a CT scan done, it showed that several (about 35) peices of “cement” were left at the bottom of the root canal. Any thoughts on this? I’m gonna have it pulled cause I don’t know what else to do. Thanks in advance for you reply.,

What can I do about my two dead teeth?

Friday, July 30th, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Tennet, My two front teeth had undergone root canal treatment around 2 years ago. I’m now 20 and still not completely happy with the appearance of my teeth as they were internally bleached but still hinder that grey discolouring which makes me very self conscious. I was looking into getting crowns/ veneers. But are these posible for my teeth? Or are there any other possible treatments? And would I have to have my front teeth removed in the future because they are dead?
