Is it true that it takes up to a year for the root canal treatment pain to settle?

Friday, April 2nd, 2010
Q.
I had root canal treatment last December but am still experiencing pain which runs along upper gum towards my ear and down to lower gum. The most recent episode has lasted for two days but previous to that it usually disappeared after a few hours. My dentist says that this is normal and that it can take up to a year to settle. Is this the case? Because if so I dont know if I can put up with it.,

Should I have lava crowns?

Monday, March 29th, 2010
Q.
I had root canal treatment on my front tooth but all the root could not be removed the dentist showed me this on xray. The tooth was discoloured and I had veneers on both front teeth which looked good. The tooth is now discoloured again and the dentist explained that it was the dead root reflecting through and has suggested lava crowns.Could the same happen if I had the lava crowns.,

Is it worth getting a crown that only lasts 6 months?

Thursday, March 25th, 2010
Q.
I lost my top tooth. It has had root canal treatment and was also a crown. My dentist says I can have a crown or a bridge. One of the teeth next to it is a veneer. He has sugested getting a implant but I can’t really afford it! There is no tooth left so I just wondered is it worth getting a crown as he said it could only last 6 months. What are the chances of the bone going as I might be able to afford an implant at a later date. What do you think I should do?,

I have been advised to have re-root treament or extraction, any other options?

Friday, March 19th, 2010
Q.
I have a tooth (front incisor) which had a root canal filling and porcelain veneer around 19 years ago. the root canal filling has now failed and may have been like that for some time but having had no other symptoms from it, it has gone unnoticed. The tooth itself had suffered from root resorbtion until it was treated and I also have some bone resorbtion between the adjacent teeth. The infection looks to be around the root of the tooth rather than a small abcess at the tip of the root as previous. I have had a couple of options given to me and would like to know what your opinion would be on this. I have advised to have a root re treatment which may clear it up permanently, or an apecetomy/root filling or to extract it and have an implant. The damage to the tooth was due to trauma and seems on the outside to be in good condition. Do you think i should get rid of the tooth and get rid of the problem/infection altogether or persevere with the tooth and try to keep it as long as possible. thanks,

Is work on gum boil that seems to have gone still necessary?

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010
Q.
Over 12mnths ago my tooth with an existing root canal developed an infected boil on the gum. On my dentist’s advice I am waiting to have the previous root canal re done privately by a specialist dentist. However at present and for the last 6+ months i have no boil or any other symptoms. The x ray show some possible infection and the specialist thinks he can improve the root canal work. I am not sure whether to pay for this work to be done when i have no pain or problems with my tooth. What would you advise, please?,
