How long should I wait for a crown to be fitted after root canal?

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011
Q.

I had root canal treatment on my 1st right upper molar 2 weeks ago and my dentist advised me to have a crown put on it in a few weeks time otherwise that tooth may fracture.
How long after the the Root Canal Treatment should I get the crown fitted?
I would appreciate your prompt reply.
Many thanks in advance.

Should I have my tooth removed or filled?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Q.

Is it true, you can only have a route canal fill on the same tooth once? as I have a double tooth and the back part the filling has come out. My dentist would prefer to remove the double tooth which will leave me with no back support. please can you advice if I have any other options

Is root canal treatment necessary?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Q.

Hi
I broke the outer half of an upper molar (filled) some years ago and did nothing about it. The break was above the gum line. It gave me no trouble. Recently I have noticed an occasional very slight headache on the same side of my head and very faint sensitivity in my cheek. The broken tooth is very briefly sensitive to hot and cold. It is not sensitive to pressure or discoloured.

I visited a new dentist who examined and drilled the tooth. He then placed a temporary white filling and told me to return in 4 days for root canal treatment. He did not take an x ray.

I am currently in no discomfort whatsoever. Is it likely that I need root canal treatment? I am reluctant to undergo this if not strictly necessary.

Many Thx

I want to save my tooth from rotting but is root canal treatment really around £300?

Tuesday, February 15th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Rob, i have had tooth rot running through my teeth for some years now.Subsequently i have lost a lot of teeth. Having visted the dentist 11/2/2011,another rotten touth has been found.I am on the n.h.s and have been told that it will not come under n.h.s funding and unless i want to pay for it it is not worth saving the tooth.I have been told it will be in the region of £300 ,i would like to try and save the tooth. Is the cost of route canal treatment this much? The dentist is worried also that the route canal will not work.I sure there is not much you can say but as i wil have to have denture i am concerned. Would it better to loose them slowly and then spend i dont know how much have permanent teeth fitted. Any thing you can tell me or advise me would be helpfull. Yours gratefully

I had a bridge fitted nine months ago and I am in constant pain, what should I do?

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011
Q.

Hi, I had a bridge fitted nearly 9 months ago and have not had one day with either discomfort or pain. I have had extensive root treatment to the two teeth either side of the gap. I cannot cope with this pain any longer and am nearly at the point of having the bridge taken out (if the dentist I was referred to is happy to do this). I keep asking myself if this is the right thing (as this has been very expensive and painful) to do as I am convinced that there was nothing wrong with the two exisiting teeth but there’s something ‘wrong’ with the bridge itself. Could it be the bridge itself causing the problems or is the pain from existing teeth/crowns?

Thanks.

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011
Q.

I had a root canal just under a year ago and have just started to experience pain in the same area. Does this mean i will have to lose my toot? what are my options ane the cost?

I also have one of my font teeth that sits further back than the rest and looks slanted. it makes me look like i have a gap or missing tooth. What would be my options and what cost am i looking at?

What is the best way to improve teeth that have had root canals?

Friday, January 28th, 2011
Q.

I currently have six teeth in top front that have previously had root canals done to them. What is the best way to improve them, they were never crowned or cap. One has a temporary cap but all the rest has had cosmetic work done to them. What do you suggest?

Do I need to pay $950 for each crown, even though they are only in the back?

Thursday, January 27th, 2011
Q.

I have a broken tooth and root canal tooth on the bottom molars. Why does my dentist want to charge 950 per crown when the teeth are in the back and on the bottom. Should I ask him for a less expensive CROWN? He explained the only way to preserve the teeth is buy crowns for $950 each not fillings.? Am I being overcharged for crowns no one can see?? My insurance covers 50% and the amount is 1000.00 per year. Please advise.

My nerves in my gums are unresponsive to anaesthetic and I am due to have root canal treatement, what can be done?

Thursday, January 13th, 2011
Q.

Since having stents in my heart 4 years ago, the anaesthetic used does not last long enough to keep nerve numb. i.e. works quick and goes quick, therefore dentist tops up with small amounts left in syringe.

I’m about to have (strong possibility) root canal treatment. Dentist had to stop, temp. filing given. Said she could ‘see’ nerve. Problem was only picked up after an X-ray, up until then tooth had looked fine.

Q: Is there anything you can suggest to help keep the nerve numb?

P.S. I’m a nervous patient which doesn’t help.
