My root canal treatment has been suspended as I am pregnant, but it really hurts, is this normal?

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011
Q.

Hi, I am in the middle of having root canal treatment. I am 28 weeks pregnant. The treatment was needed as it was badly inflamed. The nerve was taken out and 6 weeks later it has been cleaned and I have had antibiotics. My dentist says we will finish it when I have had baby as I can have xrays. However I am still having pain. It is not sore to touch, but I get twinges of fairly low pain all the way to a very strong pang of pain in it which radiates slightly up my jaw. Should I go back or is this normal? It is a back lower molar. Many thanks

Is there anything I can do to temporarily mask a discoloured tooth?

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011
Q.

Around 6 weeks ago I had a bad fall and damaged my front upper tooth. Since then I had a root canal as the nerve began to die and it has left the tooth severely discoloured. My dentist is reluctant to do anything for a few months as he wants to wait until the colour has stopped changing. I, on the other hand am desperate to get it fixed as I am very self conscious of it. My dentist has suggested that I have a veneer eventually, but is there anything I can do in the meatime to disguise it? Or should I just have the veneer now to save myself this heartache?

After root canal treatment, my tooth broke and dentists say I need more treatment, how can I choose the correct treatment?

Wednesday, March 16th, 2011
Q.

Hi Rob,

I avoid going to the dentist at all cost due to a really bad experience with a new dentist after my childhood Dr retired… she really hurt me and I haven’t found one I trust since.
A number of years ago I was in pain and had to visit a private dentist who in all fairness was gentle and provided a full examination with X-rays etc….. he said I needed A LOT of work doing. The first (and only) thing he did was a root canal. This seemed fine once the drilling was over and I went back for the whole to be filled. A month later the tooth split in half & I didn’t go back… eventually the other half snapped and I have been left with a stub (close to gum line) – now a few years further on other teeth are now affected. When I saw the private dentist for the root canal he said I needed at least 8 repairs/fillings yet I recently visited an NHS dentist due to pain & he didn’t even do an x-ray – basically said I needed 1 filling & refused to include a scale & polish.
I don’t know who to believe but I suspect the private dentist was right as my teeth are not exactly healthy! I have no faith in dentist but need to go again as I fear they will fall out. SHould I take the list with me that the private dentist gave detailing work required to see if the new NHS dentist tomorrow will actually prescribe the correct course of treatment?

I’m not sure whether to opt for a root canal or tooth extraction, what do you think?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011
Q.

hello
I have been visiting a dentist for months who said i had sensitive teeth, and was told to use toothpaste, however the pain became so bad that i had to call the emergency services.

I went back to the practice and was seen by another dentist (private)who said the tooth had to be pull due to having an abcess. I became tearful because they seem to just want to pull your teeth.
The dentist relieved the pain after approx 1 hour by opening the abcess and dressing the tooth.
He then said an RCT((UL6) was required at £550 and the earliest this could be done was march. Since then the same tooth broke to the gum line, it was refilled and now I am in pain again.
I have also discussed having implants to replace the missing teeth but will now than likely be looking else where for this

Should i continue with the rct of just have the tooth extracted?
I look forward to your reply

thank you

I am having difficulties making decisions about root canal treatment, can I have some advice?

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011
Q.

tooth no 31 is loose. I am age 68 and though have reg. hygenist treatment and take good care of my teeth it seems I suffer from gum desease. It has been suggested removal of this tooth, root canal treatment to the 2 either side to enable a bridge to be fitted.WHAT is root canal treatment, I cant find anywhere it explained. Also another dentist suggested NO root canal, but laser to these teeth to strengthen them and then bridge fitted. Also a back lower moler has no bone left so huge deep hole which is kept clean. l dentist: remove tooth. other laser, bridge top and sides to stop food going in.
i dont WANT to kill my 4 front teeth, would prefer laser, where can I get this treatment in Uk or Israel where I live. thank you.
