Do I need to pay $950 for each crown, even though they are only in the back?

Q.
I have a broken tooth and root canal tooth on the bottom molars. Why does my dentist want to charge 950 per crown when the teeth are in the back and on the bottom. Should I ask him for a less expensive CROWN? He explained the only way to preserve the teeth is buy crowns for $950 each not fillings.? Am I being overcharged for crowns no one can see?? My insurance covers 50% and the amount is 1000.00 per year. Please advise.
A.
Dear Enquirer,
After root fillings, you will normally need to have a crown rather than a filling, in order to preserve the strength of the tooth.
Your dentist has let you know of his/her fees and these vary from practice to practice depending on the service, skill and fee structure of the particular practice. Ask your dentist about the different types of crowns he/she uses for back teeth and the pros and cons of each and fees involved.
