Ive an overbite problem will it be okay to have invisible braces and then followed by jaw surgery

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Patel I have had an overbite problem all my life. My top jaw is alot more “forward” than my bottom jaw which creates a rather large overbite. I have had fixed braces to try and alleviate the problem, by pushing the top teeth back and straightening the lower teeth. However my teeth are now moving back to there original position. I have been referred to see a maxiofacial surgeon who has informed me that the only way to permanently solve the problem is to have fixed braces for 18 months followed by jaw surgery to move the lower jaw forward. I am not looking forward to the prospect of wearing fixed braces again for such a long duration. However I am happy to have the jaw surgery to correct the overbite. I was wondering if I would be eligible to have the new types of invisible braces instead of the traditional “train tracks”? Any advice would be much appreciated! Thanks!

My bottom teeth kind of stick out should i consider getting looked at by orthodontist?

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009
Q.
Hi. My top teeth are all perfectly straight, but I have two bottom ones that kind of stick out. If you go from the middle of the bottom teeth, the third from the middle on each side, if that makes sense, are crooked. I was wondering if it’s something i should consider getting looked at by an orthodontist or not? i’m 14, by the way, and have lost all my baby teeth. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

I had brace when i was 14 and now my teeth are getting closer will they become much worse?

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009
Q.
Dear Andrew, I had a brace when I was about 14 for a short time, only a year or so. My teeth were never very crooked. However, since then (I am now 21) I have noticed my teeth getting closer to how they were before the brace, especially at the front, one tooth looks like it is gradually crossing over the other. I really don’t want to have brances again. Can you tell me if my teeth will gradually end up as they were to begin with or if the movement should halt and they won’t become much worse? Thanks

Im 14 and my bottom teeth kind of stick out do i need a brace or leave it for now?

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009
Q.
I have really straight top teeth, but my bottom ones ae not so good. There are these two teeth that kind of stick out…and I just don’t like them. I’m 14, but have lost all my baby teeth. Should I see an orthodontist to see if I need braces on the bottom, or leave it because it’s just two teeth?? Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

My front teeth are slightly crooked should i just get veneers to correct the crookedness?

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009
Q.
My front teeth are slightly crooked – one crosses over the other. I also have some discolouration on one of my canine teeth. I’ve been to see an orthodontist who advised ceramic braces for 9-12 months, but I’m very worried about them being visible as it could affect my job. Should I just get veneers? Would they correct the crookedness? Apart from being sensitive my teeth are very healthy and I have a good bite.

What can i do to stop sucking my tongue do you have any suggestion?

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009
Q.
I’ve been sucking my tongue for years now and I’m 32 years of age. I have tried stopping but it’s done subcontiously (ms) because I do it in my sleep. Sometimes, I do it when I’m really tired. I was wondering what can I do to prevent sucking my tongue. I’m going to get braces, but there is no point if I can’t stop sucking my tongue. I’ve heard about different plates/guards that can prevent me from tongue sucking. I would like to get one but unsure which one is best for me. I don’t want to get the one that I will have to wear 24hrs for a year. Do you have any suggestions???
