My front teeth are slightly crooked should i just get veneers to correct the crookedness?

Q. My front teeth are slightly crooked – one crosses over the other. I also have some discolouration on one of my canine teeth. I’ve been to see an orthodontist who advised ceramic braces for 9-12 months, but I’m very worried about them being visible as it could affect my job. Should I just get veneers? Would they correct the crookedness? Apart from being sensitive my teeth are very healthy and I have a good bite.

A. Orthodontics is a far less agressive procedure to straighten teeth. Speech can be affected with braces- this you msu be aware of- but speech is a learned response, and the more you practice, the beteer you can adapt. My nurse currently has braces on and she has not had any problems with them- which she was very nervous of. It might help for you to speak to people who have had braces recently. The 6 month smile brace is a product on the market that works quickly, effectively and are  clear, fixed so they are a little more discreet. there are other products, but it may take longer to work.
Veneers can create the illusion of straight teeth and the results are quick and can be aesthetically very good, but as the teeth are prepared, please be aware that this may compromise the overall health of the tooth/teeth dependign on how much drilling is needed. I’m sure your dentist has discussed this with you.
Hope this information has helped.
