My daughter has no problem in chewing or speaking but she is recommended for jaw surgery advice

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009
Q.
Hello I have just returned from a visit with my daughter to her Orthodontist and am quite shocked at his recommendation of her having her lower jaw realigned with surgery. After having had X-Rays and moulds done we thought having a few teeth out and a brace fitted for a few years will sort out her slightly crooked teeth. She doesnt have any problems chewing or speaking I took her purely because a tooth that sticks out worries her (shes nearly 15). In you opinion is this treatment really necessary? It all sounds rather painful and drastic. Many Thanks.

Hi there, how you doing? Um, I’ve got skew teeth, was wondering what could I get or do to have straight teeth? I know braces is an option but don’t really want to go that route because it’s a long process? Thanks

I would like to have a bonding to fix the gap inbetween my front teeth can i get it done in NHS?

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009
Q.
Hi, I am under 18 years of age, and I have a gap in between my teeth; this maybe due to the piece of skin attatched in between it, I believe its called a frenum or frenulum. I would like to have bonding to fix the gap, would this be free under the NHS? And if I was to have the piece of skin cut if I decide not to have bonding, will this get rid of my gap? Thankyou

My front teeth have started to part again which is the best option train tracks or invisible braces

Sunday, July 19th, 2009
Q.
I had braces in when i was 16 and up until recently they have maintained their position. I also had a permentent bar behind my 2 front teeth which prevented a gap, but as the bar broke my 2 front teeth have started to part again and have moved forward. I went to a free consultation re invisable braces and was told that it would cost £1900!! for one deck!! is this my best option or should i opt for the cheaper version of train tracks? which do you think would be best and work quicker? would it be cheaper if i was refered by a dentist rather than refering myself if i went for the train track options??

I havent gone a day without wearing retainer can i hold off on it for a couple of days

Friday, July 17th, 2009
Q.
Hi, Today i got all four of my wisdom teeth removed and i feel fine, my face is normal i just had some bloody issues but it was only for a few hours which is considered to be normal apparently.. However I was wondering if it would be okay to brush, floss and put in a clear retainer on the top teeth and a wire retainer on the bottom teeth.. I got my braces off about 3 years ago and haven’t gone a day without wearing my retainers so maybe thats why i’m paranoid my teeth are going to shift.. i was hoping to wear it tonight but im scared of getting an infection because im pretty sure retainers store some type of bacteria.. basically my question is should i hold off on the retainer for a couple of days or am i capable of wearing it today?

Ive a hairline fracture in my front tooth and will my retainer put pressure on them

Friday, July 17th, 2009
Q.
Hello, I had braces 3 years ago, and i still wear the retainer a few nights a week, I recently had an accident and have a hairline fracture/crack in my front tooth. It is difficult to see, you can only see it in certain light, I am worried that if i wear my retainer it will put pressure on the crack and cause it to get worse, it is a vertical crack going from the top to the bottom. It isn’t sore and my dentist had a great deal of trouble finding it. I have been to the dentist and was told not to worry, but I am not sure about wearing my retainer. I haven’t worn it for a little while because of this, and a few of my teeth have moved a little, I don’t really know what to do! Any advice would be appreciated.

My daughter teeth was extracted because one of the tooth space is too forward is it correct?

Thursday, July 16th, 2009
Q.
My daughter (13) is in the process of having her teeth straightened, they were slightly ‘bucked’ but not extremely so. The orthodontist said they were one tooth space too forward, I really didn’t want her to have any teeth out, but the orthodontist insisted it was the only and that he couldn’t treat her if this was not carried out. So much to my extreme upset, she had two teeth from her upper jaw extracted to make space for the teeth to move back. The process is nearly over, and although the teeth are beautifully straight, I have noticed her bottom lip now juts forward, has the process gone too far? She had a great smile before, but now I am worried about the bottom lip. Did I do the right thing? A friend of mine insisted her child’s teeth weren’t extracted, and much against the orthodontist will, he carried out the process without extraction and the child’s teeth are great. He even admitted she (the mother)had made the right decision. Thank you.
