Unhappy with lower denture

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
I just got dentures. the top seems great….almost like my real teeth. The lower seems all wrong. it does not wrap around the back of the gum, the teeth are set about 1/2″ above the gum line and it presses at my ear at the back. The front is about 1/4″ thick and flares out at the back into my cheecks. It’s totally unlike my real teeth. My dentist says it’s “normal” I think they made some error. my top has been good from the start. Any advice?,

Standard of denture treatment

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Dr. Patel, Due to a shortage of funds, I know I will not get the quality of work here that you provide, but still, I have a question. My immediate dentures have been in since December 14th. They have a sharp u shape while my natural teeth had more of a soft arc. When I smiled then, all you saw were teeth, no upper gums and no empty space in the sides. Now, with these, they protrude. They do not fit against my gums. They protrude a little over 1/4 inch. They push my lower lip out and the top teeth, even with all the plastic gum showing when I smile, are very long. My bottom plate stands so far away from my gums that my lower lip actually gets caught behind it sometimes when I’m talking. My dentist tells me this is the best I can expect. Maybe it is, but what causes it? I knew I would look older, but I never dreamed I would look like an entirely different person. I promise that this is no exaggeration. Even with all those broken top teeth, I looked better and ate better before I got a full set of teeth. I am so very worried. No. Worse than that. I am actually ashamed of the way I look.,

Unsure about lower denture

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
Hello Dr. Moore My bottom “Front Teeth”, 4… are separated by “TWO” extractions from the middle, I assume that you can imagine my appearance…that of a “Bulldog” somewhat? To make matters worse, they protrude to the point of making my lips protrude as well, which I hate. I will eventually be getting partial dentures for top and bottom. My upper front 4 teeth are out, they were very loose, these protruded even more than the bottoms. The remaining teeth will obviously be used to anchor the dentures. My concern is, the “Front Teeth” in the upper FRONT denture will of course be relatively straight, but the bottom 4 “separated original teeth” protrude… What procedure will the Dentist use to align up the bottom and top dentures? With the exception of the “two upper canines” plus the adjacent tooth behind each one and”ONE”lower back root canal that’s all the teeth I have left… oh’ yeah’… and the bottom 4 protruders! At my age “70” I sure don’t want braces. I was originally going to have them all out and get implants… HA’ until I learned it would cost a small fortune? A dentist I used for the consultation at the time said your face will look or BE LONGER??? So, needless-to-say, I’m looking for a 2nd opinion…what say you regarding my dilemma? I thank you whole heartedly and hope your return email will ease my mind? …Ohh’ one last thing, should I expect to pay “EXTRA for this? Regards,,

Should I opt for partial dentire or metal/ plastic one?

Thursday, January 7th, 2010
Q.
I have had a metal partial the last five years that I’ve had to use a partial cement in order to keep it secure in my mouth. Next month I am having more teeth pulled and a new partial made. The only teeth I will have will be my two front teeth on top. I’ve been advised that a metal clasp around those front teeth will result in the teeth shifting. I am so tired of having to re-cement during the day because chewing something has broken the seal loose. I am considering the flexible partial denture and would like some advice and opinions on the flexible partial vs the metal/plastic one I have now. Any advice and opinion would be greatly appreciated.,
