My nerves in my gums are unresponsive to anaesthetic and I am due to have root canal treatement, what can be done?

Thursday, January 13th, 2011
Q.

Since having stents in my heart 4 years ago, the anaesthetic used does not last long enough to keep nerve numb. i.e. works quick and goes quick, therefore dentist tops up with small amounts left in syringe.

I’m about to have (strong possibility) root canal treatment. Dentist had to stop, temp. filing given. Said she could ‘see’ nerve. Problem was only picked up after an X-ray, up until then tooth had looked fine.

Q: Is there anything you can suggest to help keep the nerve numb?

P.S. I’m a nervous patient which doesn’t help.

What treatment is available to correct a prominent gum line?

Friday, December 10th, 2010
Q.

I’m 18 and have just finished my braces treatment, my teeth are straight, but my gums are quite big, making my teeth appear smaller , which is really noticeable when i smile really big or laugh, also although my teeth are straight there is still a tiny tiny gap between my two front teeth, so not perfectly joined together. They were like this when the braces came off so it is not lack of wearing retainer etc. What would you suggest me do? As at the moment i do feel self conscious when smiling.

What options are available to correct a gap in my teeth that has emerged after braces?

Wednesday, November 17th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I had braces in my mid- teens and had to have two teeth taken out. I was assured that there would be no gaps left when the treatment was completed. But there was a gap. It is not as large as the original canine was but still is large (about 3/4 mms in width). I was told I could get braces again but that the gap would re-emerge. I declined. Another dentist told me it is too small a gap for bridges to be used. I am in my mid-twenties now and I want this fixed, for cosmetic reasons but also because the other teeth are starting to slowly seperate from one another. Please provide some solutions. Thanks,

What would the procedure to have my two big front teeth filed down? Would it cause tooth sensitivity?

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010
Q.
Hi Sunita,my front 2 teeth are 1mm longer than my other teeth. My dentist has told me its not much but because of my face shape and size they seem to look bigger and not in line with my other teeth.I am considering to get them filed, however i do understand that it may cause sensitivity.I want to know whether it will really reduce the size, what the procedure is,will it hurt?and also how bad the sensitivity will be afterwards.Thanx.,

After a ‘messy’ tooth extraction I am having problems with my jaw and a lot of discomfort. Can you advise?

Wednesday, October 6th, 2010
Q.
I had a large molar removed about 6 weeks ago and as soon as the local anaesthetic wore off I found I had trismus. It was an easy removal and in fact the dentist gave in on the first attempt! I went back 2 days later – already with trismus – and this time the dentist performed a surgical extraction which involved lots of cutting and even some bone removal I believe. I had 13 injections over the two visits and both were quite long. I already had a clicky jaw and had mild trismus some years back, simply from yawning too wide – I tend to stifle yawns now. Before this procedure my jaw was as good as it gets and I was able to eat anything, but after the procedure I found I initially could hardly move my jaw at all, though this increased to about 3 mm to bite with once the swelling and infection subsided, though this has since reduced back to the point where I can’t really get a space without a lot of discomfort.,

Can you have tooth bonding done under anaesthetic?

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010
Q.
My front 3 teeth which have been worked on before have become gappy quite badly so,I can’t seem to find out a great deal about tooth bonding online but wondered if there would be a likelihood they could be bonded without anaesthetic ? I don’t have a great fear of the dentist however I loathe being jagged at the front of the mouth and have put off going to see the dentist about this for around a year.,
