I am nervous about receiving an injection for an apicetomy, can you help?

Q.
Good day Dr Hughes,
I am due for 3 surgeries next week here in Nigeria, i would be having an apicectomy on my front tooth, cavity filling(herculite), and a buildup over a root canal i had done before, am really scared about the injections i would be given on my gums as the procedures are on 3 different ends of my mouth, i have talked to my dentist about alternative pain medication, but he insists i have to get the shots, please help with information…. thanks
A.
If a very thin and sharp needle is used and the technique is good then the injections should not be too painful. It is necessary when having intrusive dental treatment like an apicectomy that you have a local anaesthetic.

I hope that it will all go well for you and isn’t too uncomfortable.
