What treatment is available to correct a prominent gum line?

Q.
I’m 18 and have just finished my braces treatment, my teeth are straight, but my gums are quite big, making my teeth appear smaller , which is really noticeable when i smile really big or laugh, also although my teeth are straight there is still a tiny tiny gap between my two front teeth, so not perfectly joined together. They were like this when the braces came off so it is not lack of wearing retainer etc. What would you suggest me do? As at the moment i do feel self conscious when smiling.

Hi,

It is possible to alter the contour of your gums, so that you show more tooth and less gum. It usually involves some minor contouring of the gum line using a local anaesthetic. It maybe that the tiny gap may not close anymore or that additional orthodontic treatment would be needed to close the gap further. You may also be able to disguise the gap with composite/porcelain veneers. In any case continual wear of your retainers is essential to prevent the gap opening any more.

Thank you for enquiry
