I Have A High Lip-Line Which Shows My Gums When I Smile. Should I Speak To A Plastic Surgeon Or A Cosmetic Dentist?

October 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr. I have a pretty high lip-line that shows much of my gums when I smile. I was considering having lip lowering or lip repositioning as a procedure to correct my gummy smile. However, I couldn’t find any dentist who knows how to perform such surgery in my country. Instead, I found a plastic surgeon that does the procedure. Is it safe for them to do it or should only periodontists perform such treatment? Thank you for helping me.

I Don’t Want To Be Tormented With Wearing Fixed Braces. Are There Any Alternatives?

October 21st, 2014
Q.

Hello,

I’m looking for treatment on my upper teeth, I have an overbite and front two teeth protruding. I was supposed to have braces when I was younger but for some reason my parents did not go through with it. I have looked up ways online and found a few sites that speak of pulling them out and grafting them back into place literally in one session but I can only find that sort of cosmetic dentistry being done in the states. My front two teeth are quite large to be honest and was wondering if its possible to have them removed and two veneers put in there place? I’m not worried about the cost I’m just worried about having to wear braces as I work on a building site and went through enough torment at school.

I Suffer Badly From Toothache. My Dentist Thinks It’s Tooth Sensitivity. Should I Get A Second Opinion?

October 21st, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I went to dentist today due to suffering badly from toothache! I was told I grind my teeth in my sleep as my front teeth are very worn! He X-rayed and sent me away with sensitive toothpaste as he is sure it’s sensitivity! However tonight I am in complete agony is this normally for sensitive teeth? I have taken painkillers but they haven’t helped! I don’t know whether a second opinion might be useful although I have never had any concerns about my dentist before. Thank you for your time.

I’ve Had Crohn’s Disease Since The Age Of 18 And My Teeth Are Becoming Weaker. Which Treatments Should I Consider Before My Wedding?

October 21st, 2014
Q.

Dear Sir, I was diagnosed with CD at the age of 18 and prior to this, had fissure sealant treatment and had not had a single filling. My teeth were regularly checked and in good condition, strong and white.

Over the years, my teeth have become visibly more yellow, I have had fillings and the enamel has eroded and exposed the very unsightly dentine on many of my teeth. Some of them have uneven biting edges and are sharp. Until this year, my front teeth remained fairly unaffected, but now I’m getting marks on them, between them and they are getting thinned and more sensitive.

I’m getting married next year and am determined to have a better smile than I currently do. I bit the bullet and made an appointment to visit a local dentist earlier this year, who suggested using bonding to just even out the edges of my teeth, but mentioned this would be to the colour that my teeth are currently, which I’m very unhappy with.

My CD is now stable and I am mainly healthy, but hate the fact that my teeth continue to get worse – possible down to stomach acid? Do you have a suggestion as to what treatments may work to help me finally get the smile I dream of? Thank you in advance for reading and I look forward to receiving your response.

Kindest regards.

I Had Braces For An Overbite But My Arch Wasn’t Widened To My Liking. Can This Be Done?

October 20th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I had overbite and two teeth removed for braces. My arch wasn’t widened at all really and I have a narrow smile and huge dark spaces at either side. My bite is good now but I’m not happy with the aesthetics.
My orthodontist assured me he that did his best but I feel like I had two teeth removed for nothing as now I’m realising they would of helped achieve a wider smile.
My gums at the very side/back are more visible but my orthodontist told me that contouring isn’t for teeth like mine.
Is there a way of widening my arch?
Thanks.

I Want To Have Braces To Close The Gap In The Middle Of My Smile. Are Braces Safe?

October 20th, 2014
Q.

Hi Marcus. I need to have a tooth extracted and cosmetic bonding on my teeth as I’ve got a tooth under my gum. Is this safe to remove, as I am a little scared? I need to have this treatment done because I have a gap in the middle tooth and I want braces to close the gap, I was advised to this before I put braces on my teeth, so please could you advise me on what to do? Is it safe and what can I expect in terms of price when having such an operation.
Thank you.

I Have A Discoloured Front Tooth Which Needs A Veneer. How Do I Choose The Right Dentist?

October 20th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I have a discoloured front tooth after having root canal treatment a few years ago. Which then got darker and darker. Are there any other options apart from a veneer to cover this up or make the colour the same as my other teeth? I am considering veneers but don’t like the idea of them falling off in a few years. How do I choose the right dentist? My local dentist cost is £200 which is considerably cheaper than I have seen online which worries me. Your advice will be appreciated.

I Wear Dentures Which Make Me Look Older. How Expensive Are Dental Implants?

October 20th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. I am 34 and I’ve been left with no teeth. I am currently wearing a denture but it’s feels like my face is already making me a lot older than what I am I am so down but I have been to a few dentist and they said I would be a perfect fit for dental implants as I have good bone structure but I’m currently on benefits due to back pain is the procedure expensive for upper and lower implants. Thank you.

I’ve Been Advised By My Dentist To Extract A Tooth Due To Bone Loss. It Rarely Causes Discomfort. Should I Remove It?

October 17th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I have a history of periodontal disease for which I am receiving regular hygienist treatment. The periodontist has advised extraction of a tooth (due to bone loss and advisory caution to the tooth next to it which could be compromised) This tooth did give pain months ago but now is virtually pain free. Because it rarely gives discomfort I now feel unsure. I have been told that exudate is coming from the gum, there is a sinus (I believe this is the right term) so the exudate is not trapped within. My Dentist sought additional information from the specialist and the advice is to proceed with extraction. The main symptom I have from the area sometimes is a feeling of ‘a warm tooth’ if that makes sense. If you have any thoughts you may have on this I would be grateful.

I Want To Have The Perfect, Hollywood Smile. I Am Unsure Of Which Treatment Can Achieve This. Can You Help?

October 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello, Dr. I would like your advice please. I have never been happy with my teeth. They’re not too bad, but they’re not too good either. I want to have perfect teeth, as in a Hollywood smile. I am willing to pay whatever the costs are, except that I don’t know what I am looking for exactly? Is it veneers? I am unsure which product/service I need in order to achieve the smile that I want. Please could you advise?

Would really appreciate your advice. Thank you.
