I Have Low Esteem And I Would Like To Know Roughly How Much It Costs To Get The Perfect Smile?

February 27th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew,

I am an 18 year old student studying at college. I hope you can offer me some good advice. I really hate my teeth I find it difficult to eat and I never smile because I lack confidence as this leads to low self esteem. I just wish I had a perfect smile. My question for you Andrew, is how much roughly does the process cost and how long would it take? Are there any other benefits and drawbacks? Thanks. I look forward to hearing your reply.

I’m Unsure Whether I Should Have Four Teeth Extracted Or Not Before I Get Braces Fitted. What’s The Best Decision For Me?

February 27th, 2014
Q.

Hello there,
I am 22 and getting my braces soon and my dental surgeon said that it is best to remove 4 premolar teeth before treatment. I don’t really have much crowding in my mouth. But the concern is that I would end up with a 3mm to 4mm gap at the extraction spaces after removing the braces. Is it possible to do bonding for this? Why would there be gaps even by wearing braces? The dentist wants me to decide whether I want to remove the 4 teeth or not. What is the best decision for me? Thank you so much for your help.

My Crowns Are Coming Loose. What Would It Cost Me To Have A Bridge For All Five?

February 27th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew, I have a question for you that I hope you can help me with. I have five crowns in the front of my mouth and I would like to have them all on one bridge. Could you please tell me if there are any problems with this suggestion and if it would be a good idea? What kind of cost would I be expecting for this type of treatment?

I am looking to do this as the crowns don’t fit every well and are always coming loose, I have been told a bridge would look and fit a lot better, if you can advice me what I should do that would be great. Thanks a lot.

How Can I Get My New Dentures Filed Down To My Liking?

February 26th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I’ve had full dentures for 17 years and have now got a new pair of dentures. The fitting is good but I feel the top plate teeth are too big or long and the bottom plate has some sharp teeth which means I bite the inside of my lips quite a lot and is very frustrating. Can these be filed down to my liking? The bottom plate is good but I feel it moves quite a lot when I eat, yawn or swallow. I have been back to my dentist to talk to her about this and she did file them down, but after 3 days of trying them again they still feel the same. Can you advise me on what I should do?

How Easy Is It For A Dentist To Spot An Abscess?

February 26th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. I hope you can help me. I underwent an initial root canal treatment for a lower molar, the dentist also discovered an abscess which he removed.

Two weeks prior to the root canal treatment he X-rayed my tooth and proceeded to fill it, he hadn’t noticed the abscess or the dead root. How easy are these to spot? He then had to remove the new filling and start the initial root canal procedure.

However two days later my jaw and glands are still extremely swollen and sore, is this normal, or at least is it to be expected?

I look forward to receiving your response.

Regards.

I’ve Just Got Veneers 5 Months Ago And I’m Hearing A Popping Sound. Have You Ever Heard Of This Problem Before?

February 26th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Mark, I have several new veneers – top front. They were fitted 5 months ago and I’m hearing little sounds and getting a slight feeling like pressure in those veneered teeth before I hear the sound. Almost like a pop. My dentist checked my jaw and also tried to see if the veneers were loose but they are stuck on. They were x-rayed too and the only thing was a black area under one veneer which the dentist said was probably a thicker bit of the cement. The noise is definitely from my veneered teeth and I didn’t have it with my old veneers only my new ones. I notice the sounds mainly after I’ve had soup or coffee or brushed my teeth but not only then. It’s really puzzling and my dentist is at the point where he has run out of ideas for what is causing this. Have you ever heard of this kind of problem with veneers?

Could You Give Me A Rough Estimate Off How Much It Would Cost To Get My Jaw Aligned?

February 26th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. My top jaw comes out more forward than my bottom one, I think this is called an overbite. This means my bite basically covers my bottom teeth. Also when I bring my bottom jaw forward to meet my top teeth one of jaws are not straight resulting in a big space either side of my front teeth. Apart from this my teeth are all straight. I would like to have my jaw realigned. Do you think that this is the best option? Also, could you give me rough estimate of how much this sort of treatment would cost? I hope to hear from you. Thank you.

My Protruding Teeth Have Always Been Something That Have Caused Me To Have A Lack Of Confidence. How Would I Fix This?

February 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. My two upper canine teeth protrude quite a lot and have done since I was very young. I was wondering if this can be corrected and if so, how? There are large gaps behind the teeth but overcrowding means the gap isn’t big enough and as a result they stick out in front of my other teeth. Would they be removed or would a brace be the best option? I’m 35 years old and this is has always been something that caused me to have a lack of confidence. Thank you, I look forward to your reply.

If I Have Osseous Surgery Will My Teeth Become Loose And Brittle? I’m Terrified They Will. Is There Anything Else That Can Be Done?

February 25th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew, I was wondering whether you can tell me if it is true that teeth become loose and brittle after osseous surgery? I been told I may need this gum surgery and I am terrified about what the outcome will be with my mouth and teeth?
I have receding gums and spaces between my teeth, especially the top teeth, but otherwise I have good oral hygiene. What other options might be available for me to have instead of this gum surgery? Does it really have to be so drastic, this surgery? Please advise me on this. Thank you.

I Recently Got New Crowns, But Now I Have A Lisp And They Feel Too Big For My Mouth. What Should I Do About This?

February 25th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I went to my dentist so I could get a great smile but now I don’t even smile now and I hate talking as I have a lisp. The dentist put your new crowns along the top but one of the crowns is blue/grey in colour and I feel my teeth are too big and bulky for me. I hate speaking as have a lisp, so now not only do I not have the perfect smile but I can’t talk properly now either. I went back to my dentist and he said – Oh, I think they are fine and that I was paranoid when referring to my lisp. I am very upset about this and I would like to know what can be done. Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer me.
