How can I resolve the problem of my daughter’s tooth that is going to die?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
Hi, My 7 year old daughter had an accident at school (PE class) today and as a result has knocked out and broken one of her front teeth (upper jaw). We’ve taken her to a dentist who has performed a temporary procedure by glueing the tooth back together again and putting it back in place. His opinion is that the tooth will die over the next week. What is the best way of resolving this problem? Please also give me an idea of costs involved. Thank you very much,

I have a big fear of the dentist but I am suffering from tooth ache, what can I do?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
Hi there I am really worried One of molars decayed needed filling after the birth of my daughter it has been filled which lasted a year. I had horrendous toothache went to the dentist where they temporary filled it . To see if the nerves in my tooth would settle. If not they suggested a root canal or extraction. My tooth has been fine for 7 months now the filling has fallen out, although i have a huge whole my tooth is fine. I am however very worried a s my gum has been throbbing which is near to the tooth this happens only now and then. Its not constant. I am petrified that its an abcess. I have a phobia of the dentist I have even been subscribed valium in the past thats why for the past three weeks I have be putting off going to see them. Also I would be quite happy to pay the dentist to fill my tooth every year as I am pertrified of having a root canal also Thanks in advance,

How can I make the colour of my root canaled tooth match the rest of my remaining teeth?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
Hi, about two years ago i had a root canal treatment on my front tooth (top left), unfortunately it has taken a lot of the whiteness out of that tooth and it is clearly visible. Is there anything you could suggest to make it look the same as the tooth next to it? Thank you,

Do you have any advice for someone who is extremely down about their teeth?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
Hi, I don’t really know where to start, but i’m extremely down about my teeth 🙁 i’m 19 and just don’t know what to do, I feel the problems with them may be too big to sort. When I was younger I had to have root canal treatment on a front tooth, this left it very grey, I have since had a crown but they still don’t look right. Also, my bottom teeth became very rotten so i’ve had lots of work done on them, but they look awful as the white fillings I had are becoming discoloured. My teeth are far from straight, they all seem to be different colours. I just don’t understand it because i’ve always looked after them, but my dad had a lot of problems with his teeth & so has my mum. This is beginning to rule my life, I think about how hideous my teeth look 24/7. I saved up £400 to have this crown done which looks awful. I just don’t know where to turn, but at the age of 19 i’m not willing to live the rest of my life like this. So if you have an advice i’d be extremely grateful, i’m willing to save up any amount of money, no matter how long it takes. I also have pictures but not sure how to attach them on here. Thank you in advance.,

I’m dreading the extraction because I have low clotting factor IX, any advice?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Moore, I have had root canal treatment about 15 years ago. In the last few years, I have had a few re-fillings on this tooth (not canal again). Now all the filling has come out and following an abscess/infection, the little bit of tooth that was there, had to be removed to avoid pain when eating. The dentist here in Cyprus advised me to have the root removed. The problem now is that I am told I have to remove what is left (the root), and as I have low clotting factor iX, I dread having this extraction. Is there anything I can do to avoid exraction, as I have had such bad bleeding problems with teeth extracting inthe past. This is a nightmare for me. Especially now that I am in Cyprus for a few months. Please can you advise? Thank you.,

Surgery is the last option for me, how can I fix my front tooth?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
I have a pretty complicated issue with one of my front tooths (I believe 11) which has gone through root cancal a long time ago. It started hurting 5 months ago and when I went to the dentist to have it checked, I was told that I have to do an apicoectomy since he and another dentist could not find the canal. The entire canal has been sealed with a composite / filling exactly the same color as my tooth. He tried to drill half way but I started feeling some pain. He said he doesn’t want to take the risk since he might puncture the canal wall. Any suggestions as to what would be my best recourse? I was hoping surgery to be the last option. Thank u.,

Do you think it is actually worth taking the antibiotics?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Moore I have a chronic infection in/around a root canal treated tooth which my dentist thinks is probably cracked, my dentist has x rayed this recently and is happy to leave it. I asked if I could try antibiotics, she was happy to give me a prescription for Metronidazole but said it would only get rid of the infection in the short term and it would come back. My question therefore is do you think it is actually worth taking the antibiotics and if I do is there any chance however remote that the infection could disappear permanently? I am not keen on taking antibiotics if they are not necessary and my dentist did seem rather ambivalent about them. Many thanks for your advice and kind regards.
