Why did my tooth break off like that?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
Hi, my 3rd from back (molar) tooth has broken during my last dinner when I chewed on a very hard piece of food. Only a small piece of my tooth came off and has not gone past my gum line, there is about 1 millimeter of tooth until the gum begins. There is no pain and it has previously (many years ago) had a filling. I obviously know i have to go the dentist, but I am just after maybe a reason for this happening and a rough guide of what will happen next. Thanks,

What emergency measures can be taken to ensure that I can keep my front tooth?

Friday, September 3rd, 2010
Q.
Dear Dr Solanki Over the years, I have had two crowns on my upper left incisor. There isn’t very much of the original tooth left. The tooth is now weak the crown is loose. My dentist thinks the root may have softened over time. The post in the crown is not broken. My concern is about the whole thing coming apart before I can start my treatment in 1 to 2 weeks. What emergency measures can be taken to ensure that I can keep my front tooth? Many thanks.,

The new crown I got was way too long and had to be filed down. Is this sort of adjustment normal or did someone make a mistake?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
Hi, yesterday I went to get a crown fitted on one of my front teeth. When the dentist first showed it to me the crown was significantly too long. After he’d reduced the length the bottom of the crown was flat and rough. Is this sort of ajustment normally necessary or did the people making the crown make a mistake? He didn’t fix it permenantly to give me time to think about it.,

I have been left with temporary fittings after a finance problem. I was thinking about finishing the work abroad, but I’d appreciate your advice?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
Hello, i’m looking for some advice. Over a year ago i was given treatment to my six front teeth which after an accident left me with a tooth missing and the rest badly damaged. I was treat privately and given temporary crowns and some bridge work was carried out. Unfortunately the finance for the treatment didnt go through and so the dentist could not finish the work. I’ve been left with a temporary fitting and have been told the NHS cant fund the rest of the treatment because its classed as cosmetic dentistry. Unfortunately i’ve recently become unemployed and cant afford for the rest of the work to be carried out privately. I’ve been researching having the work done abroad at a lower cost but am unsure where to look. I’m not sure if i’m asking the right person but any advice would be much appreciated. I’m unsure how long the temporary crowns will last and worry because they bleed alot when brushing. I have a breakdown of the work that was to be carried out but i need to speak to someone who can tell me exactly what it could cost. Kind Regards.,

What is the difference between certain crowns, and which are the best?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
Hi, can you advise what are the best crowns to have? I have been to a dentist and he has said that he can do a set of crowns ranging from £250 a tooth to £500 a tooth. What would be the difference in the crowns? thanks,

Is receiving the post and crown a good idea?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
My dead front tooth is broken below the gum line and dentist said that the post and crown is not a good choice due to the short root, but we could try though. However, I feel that having that done would give me an extra time before implantation, because implants are not for life and I am still young. Do you think it is worth trying and can it possibly reduce chances for successful implantation later on?,

I have terrbile pain when I chew and I don’t know why, the dentist said everything is fine! What could be the matter?

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010
Q.
I had a filling put in my very back tooth about 6 weeks ago. Ever since then I keep a terrible aching in jaw whenever I chew, although the pain is under a tooth that was not fixed. It is actually under a crown. It is sensitive to hot and cold. I went back to the dentist this week and he adjusted the bite, but it is still causing some pretty terrible aching pain. HELP! The dentist did an xray and said everything looked fine for all the teeth on that side.,
