The new crown I got was way too long and had to be filed down. Is this sort of adjustment normal or did someone make a mistake?

Q. Hi, yesterday I went to get a crown fitted on one of my front teeth. When the dentist first showed it to me the crown was significantly too long. After he’d reduced the length the bottom of the crown was flat and rough. Is this sort of ajustment normally necessary or did the people making the crown make a mistake? He didn’t fix it permenantly to give me time to think about it.,
A. it sometimes happens, wait to see how it settles in and if necessary have a new one made.
