Is there a list of ethically priced dental surgeons across the country?

Thursday, June 24th, 2010
Q.
Hi, So many people do not go to the dentist because they cannot afford to go. Crowns cost from £200 to £2000.Mostly in Surrey it is the upper end. Is the industry regulated. Surely if a dentist wants £2000 he/she should be highly qualified, with years of exp and using the best products. If the dentists did not charge so much they would have more clients. Going back to crowns costing £2000 ,that fall out should the client not have a guarantee that the work reflects the price. I think people may be worried about asking questions because they are embarrased to ask but if treatment is so expensive surely they have a right to ask what they are paying for especially when an implant, which must be far more involved can cost the same from what I have read on this website. Are all dentists NHS trained, how long do they work for the NHS before they can charge the public privately. From what I have seen it really is about business and what that business can squeeze out of a patient. It would be good to see dentists promoting dental care and prices that are affordable so the nation has good dental care. I rarely go to the dentist myself ,treatment I have had has been done badly, so I have been advised by my last dentist who sadly retired. I used to work at a dental surgery and do not like what I saw , i am aware of many people needing treatment who cannot afford it. One friend is in pain right now but the dentist said she needs a crown at £2000 and will not treat the tooth unless she has the crown. Lots of questions I know your name just popped up first. Is there a list of good, and ethically priced dental surgeons across the country. Thank You.,

Should I have teeth removal after being diagnosed with periodontal disease?

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010
Q.
Although I have a plaque free mouth, I have developed periodontal disease quite severely. I see the hygienist every three months, but I know that the disease has been spotted far too late and I have severe bone loss on at least 6 teeth. I am now at a cross road and although my dentist wants to continue with the three month hygiene regime, my quality of life is very poor, i.e great sensitivity, difficulty in eating and my mouth is permantly thobbing. I would like to loose the 4 molars which are causing me problems, together with one premolar and in incisive which although healthy do not have any bone to support them anymore. what are my options? and how much would it cost for 6 implants, bone and gum restoration? Also how can the denist not have spotted the severity of the problem as I always had 6 month check up previously? I am really upset that find myself in this situation as I have always taken care of my teeth, PS I am 43.,

Does Invisalign require removal of teeth like metal braces do?

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010
Q.
Have been advised that metal braces to correct severe overcrowding in my son’s teeth would also involve taking out 4 teeth at least. Would this be the case with Invisalign? He has 4 wisdom teeth and 4 molars still to come through. Regards.,

Would mid-range dentures last okay?

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
Q.
I am sponsoring a 21 year old girl from Tanzania for 4 months. She is in pain and a dentist said she has little or no enamel on all teeth ie. she needs crowns on all, has multiple cavities and cracks or will need dentures. Since once she returns, there will be no dental care, my concern is that teeth can decay under crowns and eventually be worthless. Would dentures be best? Since we are fundraising and I will be doing most of the bill unexpectedly, is there a huge difference in price? I don’t want low end dentures as this is her only shot, but I can’t afford artistically done high end ones either. So would mid range dentures last? Many thanks and blessings.,
A.
I’m sure they will last ok

Should I go back to my dentist and say I am not 100% happy with my PFM bridge?

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
Q.
I have just had a PFM bridge fitted 12 teeth upper jaw, it does look lovely, but on two teeth near front, I can see the metal cuff, it is only very slight (like a fine pencil line on the gum line) My Dentist did point this out to me on the final session but says with correct soft and gentle brushing this will correct itself? I am uncertain this can be achieved with just brushing correctly and why should only 2 teeth out of the 12 appear like this? can you advise please? should I go back and say I am not 100% happy ?,

I can’t have an implant because of the tooth stuck in my gum, what can be done about this?

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
Q.
I have a tooth stuck inside my top gum above a gap, tooth recently pulled out, the plan was to have an impnat to replace the one pulled out, but now the dentist is saying he cant put in an implant as this tooth is in the way and he cant pull it out as it is is too far up in my mouth and would need a plate over it, again not allowing an implant. What can be done?,

Is there any way of fixing my dental problem by making my overall appearance of my smile wider?

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
Q.
hi there , im 18 years old and currently have upper braces fitted, i have prominant front teeth due to my lower jaw being larger than upper. however although my lower teeth are straight i have a very narrow, rectangular shaped jaw, rather than a arch shape. This means my molars are tilted inwards so my bite is even with my top. Is there any way of fixing this by making my overall appearance of my smile wider instead of having my four front teeth showing only. Thanks x,

What is the best cosmetic treatment for aging teeth?

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
Q.
Dr Moore, I have always had an attractive smile with little cosmetic denistry except the relacement my old silver fillings with white ones. I am now 60 and my teeth are becoming more translucent, my fillings and caps are all different shades and stained and I am very unhappy with how my smile is changing. I have tried bleaching to little avail. What is the best cosmetic treatment for aging teeth. I feel removing my old caps, applying veeners and other options will destroy the integity of my teeth and, as I contiune to age, cosmetic treatments will look good initially but be worse in the long run. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.,

I want my capped tooth to look identical to my other tooth, what do you suggest?

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
Q.
Unfortunately my front took was chipped and so i got it capped. However, that one tooth is wonky and sticks out quite noticably. I recently went to the dentist and she said the best thing to do is to get a root canal. However, when i asked if this would then make my capped tooth look idential to my other tooth, she didn’t look convince that it would. All i want is these two teeth to match! Its really getting me down. I am a student & so haven’t the funding. However, i only have a HC3 certificate so procedures will still be pricey.,
