Can I have my twisted teeth fixed with dental veneers?

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010
Q.
Hi, my two upper canine teeth are twisted, not severely but enough to annoy me. I first noticed in when I was about 14, I am now 20 and they have seemed to get more twisted over time. I was wondering if this could be fixed with veneers? Thanks,

Is the bone graft carried out in a hospital? How much is it going to cost?

Monday, June 14th, 2010
Q.
I have suffered with gum disease since the age of 20 and had extensive periodontal treatment in my younger years. I have been told this is hereditory as my mother lost all her teeth in her late 20’s. I am now 52. I have recently had 2 back teeth one bottom and one immediately above removed due to excessive bone loss. This area shows when I smile. I currently have a bridge totalling 6 teeth fixed by 4 crowns running from both front teeth at the top – back to the area where one of the recent teeth was removed, the gum around the bridge work has receded. In addition my bottom four teeth at the front have extensive gum loss. I was a smoker for many years and have finally been able to break the habit as I am aware this has been a negative factor in the deterioration of my dental health. I am terrified of ending up with loose dentures and feel that further cost for bridges and crowns would be a waste of money due to the instability of surrounding teeth. I understand that bone implant can be carried out so that there would be an option for fixed denture or bridges. Is this procedure carried out in a hospital and how much is this likely to cost? Prior to implant surgery.,

Q.
i used to have a brace years ago, but my teeth have gone back to how they were previously. theyre not as bad as before my brace, but still cause me to feel self conscious about my smile. there is overcrowding over the teeth and slight overjet, with one tooth in particular jutting out at an angle. would it be possible to file the teeth to look straighter?,

Is it usual to have to wait so long for a dental appointment?

Friday, June 11th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I am registered privately with a local dentist. 2 years ago, I asked about teeth whitening and paid for some moulds and gel. i was told that the gels would make my teeth very sensitive and as i was worried, I didn’t use them. The gels are now 12 months out of date so I contacted my dentist to purchase some more. I was told that I needed to book an appointment and I will have to wait until October. I asked if I could book in to see the hygenist and was told that I couldn’t without seeing my dentist first. I go on holiday in September and hoped I could have my teeth looked at by then. Firstly, is it usual to have to wait so long for an appointment, even if you are private? Secondly, what is the best treatment for whitening and thirdly, is it true that I can’t see a hygenist without first having seen a dentist? I appreciate my appoinment is non urgent and cosmetic, but surely dentists can do cosmetic work? Many Thanks.,

Should I see a cosmetic dentist about the possiblity of dental implants even though I may not be suitable for them?

Friday, June 11th, 2010
Q.
I have been seeing a periodontist for treatment for gum disease and I asked about implants, she said i would not be suitable for implants due to bone loss. I was wondering if I should see a cosmetic dentist anyway or would it be a waste of money. Thanks for your time,

Which one would look better: a dental bridge or dental implants?

Friday, June 11th, 2010
Q.
Hi, My four front teeth are posted crowns. I have had them replaced three times over the last 25 yrs, never with complete satisfaction (size, colour, speech etc). On my latest attempt to replace them I lost one of the smaller incisors and am now advised to have a six piece bridge from canine to canine or replace with implants. My concern this time is to achieve the best possible esthetic result and feel that a bridge would be more flexible in the smile design and retention of gum line. Can I please have your opinion on the esthetic merits of these two options? I have had significant gum and bone loss in the past though no gum disease at present and the situation is well maintained. I am also aware that a bridge will have a limited life span.,

Is there any alternative to this awful splint I have had fitted?

Friday, June 11th, 2010
Q.
I recently knocked my front tooth out of line and have just had a splint fitted yet It’s horrible! It’s so thick I can’t close my mouth comfortably, it looks terrible and covers the front of teeth and every 5 seconds I’m having to suck the saliva out of the splint – it’s disgusting! I have been in tears ever since. Is there an alternative to this nasty plastic splint to secure my ‘loose’ tooth in place?,

Would you recommend dental implants to fill the gaps in my mouth?

Friday, June 11th, 2010
Q.
I have four missing teeth. Two on the bottom at opposite sides of each other, my back left wisdom tooth and not the one in front of it but the one after that is also gone. I’ve not taken great care of my teeth in the past, those that have been extracted have been because they were too decayed to be functional or saved. I have a number of fillings and my gums are mostly healthy. I want to fill these gaps, as they are spaced out in my mouth would you recommend dentures or a bridge or implants?,
