Will the removable retainer do the job of preventing my teeth from grinding?

Monday, July 5th, 2010
Q.
Hi I tend to grind my teeth during the night time. I have a mouth guard that I wear once or twice a week during the night (It is bulky and uncomfortable). My question is if I wear my removable retainer on my upper jaw as I have just recently removed my braces, (I have been told I must wear my essix retainer every night for a very long time) do I also have to wear my mouth guard every night to prevent the removable retainer from getting damaged or will the removable retainer do the job of preventing my teeth grinding. Kind Regards.,

When the titanium post is placed during an implant is the post placed in a root canal?

Monday, July 5th, 2010
Q.
When titanium post is placed during implant is the post placed in a root canal? If so, does the canal have to be filled or does it close over after extraction of tooth? How long is the normal adult root canal? Thank you,

I’m concerned that I may have been given a dangerous bronze alloy crown, please help!

Friday, July 2nd, 2010
Q.
I am concerned re the Radio 4 You and Yours programme on bronze alloys for dental crowns a couple of weeks ago. I’m not good at making a fuss but yesterday my 3 month old ‘gold coloured’ crown fell off and I am having it refitted tomorrow by my NHS dentist. It is showing discolouration on the sides adjacent to the neighbouring teeth and a bit of green showing. The other sides are gold coloured and fine. Does this mean I have a bronze alloy crown? I understand these are not acceptable on the NHS and which the dental surgeon speaking on the programme said he would under no circumstances have in his mouth as one’s body absorbs metal ions(?can’t remember exactly!) from the crowns. They are however cheaper and are used. I am going to ask her tomorrow but if it is a bronze alloy how should I proceed? Thanks for your help. Please reply soon!!,

Would the removal of my two upper canines improve my overbite?

Friday, July 2nd, 2010
Q.
I’m interested in having my upper two canine teeth removed, and replaced with a bridge or dentures. I’m 23 years old and I’ve had a severe overbite for years. The overbite is manageable by holding my jaw a bit foreword (a now natural habit). I’m not interested in correcting the overbite. However, I have one problem I’m set on fixing: Those top 2 canine. My canines have caused my front-upper gumline to push outward unnaturally, giving me the appearance of a monkey or the “Homer Simpson” look. The maxilla juts out and gives m y face very boxy appearance around the mouth. I’m suggesting that if my 2 upper canines were removed, and the bone of the pallete grinded/cut down under the gumline area, an oral surgeon could correct this “boxy” appearance of my mouth and lips.,

If I have one tooth fixed privately and one fixed through the NHS will they both look different?

Thursday, July 1st, 2010
Q.
Hi there. I have veneers on my front two top teeth one of which needs replacing because it is leaking but my dentist has said the other will probably have to be done at the same time too. If I have one done on the NHS and one done privately will the two teeth look different?,

Is the teeth whitening treatment cost too good to be true?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
Q.
Hello, I am planning on getting my teeth whitened. I live in Glasgow and there are many companies which offer the procedure however some seem too good to be true. For example a clinic called SmileQuest offer the procedure for £99. Please advise me if this is indeed too good to be true and if so tell me which method you consider to be the most reliable. Many thanks.
