Should I have teeth removal after being diagnosed with periodontal disease?

Q. Although I have a plaque free mouth, I have developed periodontal disease quite severely. I see the hygienist every three months, but I know that the disease has been spotted far too late and I have severe bone loss on at least 6 teeth. I am now at a cross road and although my dentist wants to continue with the three month hygiene regime, my quality of life is very poor, i.e great sensitivity, difficulty in eating and my mouth is permantly thobbing. I would like to loose the 4 molars which are causing me problems, together with one premolar and in incisive which although healthy do not have any bone to support them anymore. what are my options? and how much would it cost for 6 implants, bone and gum restoration? Also how can the denist not have spotted the severity of the problem as I always had 6 month check up previously? I am really upset that find myself in this situation as I have always taken care of my teeth, PS I am 43.,
A. Hello, sorry to hear of your problems. You are right about removing the teeth if their prognosis is hopeless. the early the teeth come out the more bone will be left for the placement of dental implants. As a guide a single tooth implant completed costs £2000 however the price can come down if more than one is placed at a time. However if more bone is required an additional procedure and fee may be required. I’m not sure about the bone loss not being picked up without seeing you first and any previous x-rays.
