How Do I Choose the Right Dentist?

Friday, November 4th, 2016
Q.

The outer side of my top tooth broke just days after an inlay was put in. It has been repaired with some filling, which I was told could last for some time before I had to make a decision what to do next. This filling on the outside is becoming loose just after a few days. The solution now I suppose is a crown. But how do I find a dentist to do the job right as I lost confidence in my present dentist?

What’s the Best Treatment for a Crown and Filling That Have Fallen Out?

Thursday, September 22nd, 2016
Q.

I am a 54 year old female and I currently wear a partial denture, which looks like my own teeth and has become loose (6 teeth missing at the front). I also had a crown to the side and a big filling towards the back (I think you call them pre-molars). Both have fallen out. The tooth that was next to the crown that has fallen out is too far gone that the dentist says it’s not worth filling because its actually dead and down to the gums. What options are available and budget-friendly? What can I expect to pay on the NHS or private?

Can a Filling Make You Feel Unwell Afterwards?

Wednesday, April 8th, 2015
Q.

Dr Moore, have you ever seen patients complain of illness after a composite dental filling was placed? I had a filling done behind my front tooth and have been feeling very unwell ever since. I felt absolutely fine before the filling was placed but since then have been getting very bad headaches, brain fog and a general feeling of un-wellness. The material used was called Venus Flow but I am told it cannot be removed. Can a tooth be removed to rid the problem if the material is impossible to remove? Thanks.

Could I Have a Small Filling Fitted That Holds a Veneer Without Damaging It?

Monday, March 2nd, 2015
Q.

Hello. Is it possible to have a small filling at the back of a tooth that a holds a veneer without damaging the veneer? If not, what is the best treatment pathway for the tooth in question? I would also like to know how successful the treatment would be and how high a percentage of success there is regarding this filling being completed without damaging the veneer. If the veneer were to be damaged, could I have another veneer fitted once the filling is completed? Many thanks.

I Would Like To Know How Much It Would Cost For 8 Front Tooth Veneers? Since Having My Daughter My Teeth Have Eroded.

Friday, October 17th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I would like to know how much it will cost for veneers and 6-8 front teeth and then to whiten all of the teeth. With a 6 months smile.

I have a gap between my teeth which I would like to close, also the enamel has eroded away on the top of my front teeth since I have had my daughter and the dentist has filled it but it doesn’t look nice. My second tooth on the right was chipped as a teenager and has now been filled with filling and my teeth are yellow and I want them to be white. Thank you for your time.

I Seem To Get Charged A Different Amount Each Time I Have A Filling. Is This Fair Or Accurate?

Friday, October 10th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. I visited my dentist recently and had a permanent filling in my left sided tooth and they used cotton wool and some kind of gel to fill this permanently. I wanted to ask whether cotton wool is safe and hygienic for permanently filling the cavity tooth. I’ve been charged different amounts for each filling I’ve had and would like to know if this is fair. Please help me as I don’t know if I’m being ripped off. What would you suggest? Thank you for your time.

Why Is My Tooth So Sharp?

Thursday, September 18th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes,
I have a question to ask you about one of my bottom teeth and I hope you can help me. Over the past couple of months it has been very sharp and cuts my tongue whenever I slide it across my bottom teeth. The dentist I regularly go to has filed it down to give it a smoother feel, but the sharpness is still constantly there. I also got tooth bonding done after it was filed, and the sharpness is still there. What do you suggest this could be, and what would I be able to do to get rid of this sharpness on my tooth? Thank you for your time.

I hope you can help me.

Are There Any Alternatives to Root Canal Treatment?

Monday, September 15th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Gambroudes, I’m hoping you can help me with my problem.  I have a deep filling in my second top molar which has a very big cavity. As I’ve mentioned,  is currently patched up with a deep filling, but I have been advised by my dentist that root canal treatment will be required if it gets much worse. I do not want root canal treatment at all, but I also don’t want my tooth to die and lose colour.

Instead of root canal surgery, what can be offered to keep the appearance of a good tooth?

I understand that surgery will probably be required, but don’t know the options or the costs.

Thanks in advance.

I Haven’t Been To A Dentist For Two Years As I Have Dental Phobia. How Much Would It Cost To Have My Fillings Replaced?

Monday, August 11th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. I’ve not been to the dentist for about 2 years I’ve got dental phobia and the whole experience just scares me. I’ve got very weak teeth and 2 of my bottom back teeth have broken I also have a lot of fillings. I really want them sorting out as I realise how important my teeth are. What sort of piece would I be looking at to have my fillings replaced probably about 6 of them and also the bottom 2 teeth that have broken? I’m with an NHS dentist at the moment? Thanks.

I Have Pain In My Jaw But I Can’t Afford To Get This Fixed. Do You Have Any Ideas On What I Can Do?

Thursday, July 24th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I had steroids as a child and as a result my teeth more or less all contain fillings. Money is tight for me, but I have a very painful jaw which my dentist tends to ignore. I have two teeth missing and others need pulling out. I am only 36 and find it hard to smile because I have lost all confidence as my teeth are such a mess not to mention how painful eating and drinking is. What should I do? Any help or advice on this will really be helping me. Thank you in advance.
